Default Has anyone here modified a non-roller block to accept the fac rollers?

Has anyone modified a non-roller SBC block to accept the factory hyd roller spider tray and lifters???

If anyone has ever done this could you please let me know what all needs to be done???

I would really like to find a set of aftermarket Retro fit SBC roller lifters (the ones with the tie-bars) but so far I haven't been able to find any used sets so if anyone does happen to have a used set for sale let me know.

There was a post on here about it a while back, someone posted pictures and it looked like a real hack job. You have to grind the block in the lifter valley in an area thats not all that thick. I'd seach and find that thread, you may not want to do it after you read through it. The price of the retro fit hyd roller for the early block isn't that bad.

I for sure don't want to swap blocks, besides, there weren't any 400 roller blocks made, the motor I am running right now is a 406.

check on ebay. They have used ones or try posting a want ad in the classifieds. And be carefull how you work your ads because it could get moved by a mod for reading like a classified ad.

I didn't mean for it to look like an ad, sorry if it did.

It's just that someone was trying to tell me that it is pretty easy to put factory roller stuff in a non roller block, and for some reason I think there is a ton more to it than that.

I was refering to where yo uasked if anyone had any used lifters. I`m not a mod, just giving a heads up. Anyway, do a search. There is a few threads on it and one of them is mine. It can be done but it is not a simple thing to do.

I would just spend the 4-500.00 dollars on a new set. They are pricey, but at least you will know what you are getting. Don't you have to get new push rods as well?

I think I saw Lunatie retros for right at 400.00 for a set with the link bar.

I have both the Morel Retro fits in street and Pro on the shelf. PM for pricing. Do not use a set of used lifters.

I remember seeing a post with a link to an Ebay seller over on Thirdgen.org offering directions and p/n's on how to do it using the factory parts. If I remember correctly you had to grind flat areas on the top of each lifter bore and you had to drill and tap three holes right down the center of the Valley for the hardware that holds the Spyder in place.Risky Business on any block you have spent any money on in my opinion.Trying it out on a junkyard motor that you don't care if it screws up maybe.Just my.02

Thanks guys for all the info.

I looked on evil bay and the ones on there were way more than I can afford right now.

With the price of a new retro cam, new retro lifters, and pushrods it is just way more than I can afford.

And it sounds like doing the stuff to make factry rollers work in a non-roller block is way more than I would care to chance on this motor.

SO, sounds like I will have to just hope that I can save enough money to buy new stuff next year.

I've done it.

The conversion takes the shorter V-6 lifters.

I've looked at the information sold on the ebay. It seems to cover all the information needed for a successful conversion.

ok I looked in to this for my 400 project that never happened for my vega I sold. here is what I ended up doing I purchased a hydro roller cam from the clasifieds here on TC cost me $85 with shipping. then I went the hybred route and bought a set of lunati solid roller lifters from ebay got a new set for $275 they are the spring type lifter for easy cam change. Then I called comp cams maker of the cam and asked what springs and what lash they recomended and picked up a set of Isky's springs off ebay new for $75. I got the push rods from Mr gasket store for $20. I had to barrow a pushrod measuring tool form a local builder he didnt charge me anyhting as I had him install the springs on the heads.
