Has anyone ever heard of "Restorers Choice" clear? I used it at a shop where I used to work 4 or 5 years ago, and can't seem to find it anymore. Supposedly it was made by a paint chemist out of his garage or a small shop, or he had another company mix it to his specs. The reason I ask is because unlike run of the mill production clears, his clear you could literally sand with 600 on a DA the next day and still buff it out. Not only that, but it was hands down the best clear I have ever seen or used. Shine, depth, ease of use, holdout, it even smelled like grapes when sprayed!! Hopefully someone else out there knows more info on if it is still made.

I'm sorry to hear that Randy passed away. He had to have been one hell of a guy to sell a clear for half as much as the big 3, but yet in all actuallity, 10 times better.
You know if anyone took over for him? Have you ever sprayed it? |

I have owned a shop for years and a Restorer's Choice user. After Randy's passing there was a few hick-ups but Randy's wife is still running the business. They no longer offer primers but still sell thier clears. I can tell you nothing, nothing buff's like restorers choice. Don't spray any of thier clears with a small nozzle gun like a 1.3 or you will not be happy with the finish. Large tips!!
I am not affiliated or have any interest in RC at all, I am just a user. Randy was a chemist at a large automotive paint company before striking out on his own some 18-20 years ago. the number is 800-471-3061. They are small, you may have to leave a message. The other thing is they are not expensive. The other product I like and use daily is thier basecoat activator, incredible chip resistance when you put some in your basecoat. Chao |

Going to have to try this stuff. Can it be used over any BC?

Randy (he is the guy that started the company that passed away) recommended that it could be used with any basecoat. But, cheap basecoats like LIMCO, nason, omni should be reduced with Restorer's Choice BasePlus Maker to help get the cheap tail solvents out. I've used baseplus maker and it does work well but I have not used it in some time because it was something else to stock. If you have never used Restorer's Choice the 2plus9 clear is the most forgiving. Order thier urethane reducer, it is very high quality and not that expensive. If you reduce it with cheap reducer it will die back a little. For non-california it is mixed 4 clear 2 reducer 1 hardener. So a gallon kit and a gallon of reducer will make 7 sprayable quarts. (with enough reducer left to do another kit).

I have never shot a bc/cc, so forgiving + cheap + quality sounds very appealing.
