Default My 67 Convertible --- Rust Bucket

I tried to buy this car 23 years ago. The car was in great shape at the time. The owner who was also my neighbor at the time WOULD NOT sale the car. He said that he planed to fix it. In 2006 I bumped into him in town and asked if he still had the car and if he wanted to sale it. I bought it for $200 buck. Maybe a waste of money but ….. I now own it! I am hoping to find something in better shape and use this one as a donor car … after I finish the 66 SS.

I love those people who never fix and let them rust away…..

I would have paid $200 twice for that rusty labor of love mobile.

Ugh! My '67 came out of Rochester, NY, & it does not look anywhere as bad as what you ended up with. It will need all the usuals replaced, but I could almost shoot a paint job on it & go. Good luck, I'll be scrouging the vendors at the shows for some parts for mine so there may not be much around left for you. HA!

Two hundred is a steal if the frame is good and the rear seat frame useable.Donor or builder if those parts are solid you're well ahead of the game.As a comparison I paid almost 2k to buy and ship a correct bare chassis up from the Carolinas and about $400 for a rear seat from California. The body is still very rough on mine and in all reality probably worth more in parts than as a builder. If you find yourself in the same position on this car you should still be able to part odds&ends and at least recoup the initial investment.Should mine get finished about all that will be left of the original car will be the windshield posts and parts of the inner rear wheelhouses.

I wish my car looked like that when I started. I bought a driver quality one and still replaced everything you will replace, but the difference is I paid way more then 200$

I hate when people hang onto a car instead of selling it to someone who will actually restore it. Just to think at one point in it's life it was new and shiny.

Dont dwell on the bad condition. It is what it is. Far as the rust...hey there are part for all of it so its not like it cant be fixed. One of my chevelles was a 70 convertible that I found sitting in a corn feild in NJ for 15 years. Trunk pans, floor pans, quarters, door skind and front fenders ( Hood and trunk lid were fine...go figure). Yeah ita a lot of work but more than the dreaded body work for me is stripping a car for parts that is complete and just needs rust repair...that just pains me to see that.

My 67 SS 138 Conv has a different story that I'll try to publish here soon. I need to diary my car from purchase to now in video and such. My orig 138 has only been driven slow around the block and I'm looking towards the Spring to present this Masterpiece as it has not been licensed since 1999 and Winter is soon to come. Been a long time.
