I want to put together a car for use at burnout parties and contests..
My dad has a 55 chevy donor car.. a 454 out of at truck with a new cam,, some head cleanup , new / intake carb.. large converter , and a 456 rear ... that should do the trick,, shouldnt it.. |

You could make a ton of smoke with a 200 shot of Nitrous
The only thing I would add to your list is Line Lock.

if all you want to do is burnouts, put 3.08's or 2.73's in it with a powerglide.
stock 454 with summit cam, and used intake and carb will get it done just well.. aaron

I sure hope that with 4.56 gears you have a pretty big camshaft in the engine (with a long duration@.050). If it's a mild camshaft, or anything less than a very radical cam, those 4.56 gears will not be the best for massive burnouts. The car will still do them, yes but you'll get the rear wheel speed a lot faster with a more mild rear gear ratio like 3.08's or even 3.55's, and they would be much better for street driving too than 4.56's are.
The only time that 4.56's would be of help for burnouts is if you had a puney little small block engine like a 283 in a real heavy car. Because of the lack of low end torque of the engine, you might need extreme rear end gear ratios just to get the tires spinning real easy. But with a 454 engine, that would neither be needed, nor advantagous. If you want to really put on some seriously extreme smoke shows for people, you want to get the rear tires spinning above 100 MPH, and with 4.56 gears that won't be as easy to do than it would be with 3.55 gears. Particularly if you have a camshaft that isn't still making power increases up at 7,000 RPM. ![]() Below is a link to the video I made with my low 12 second car which happened to win a burnout video contest I entered (I won a leather jacket...big deal )...but the car has a puney little 281 engine that I installed a supercharger on, and I also installed 4.56 gears in it. But I can tell you that with the 3.55 gears that it originally had, it would've done even better burnouts. And BTW, it was a dialy driven street car that i used for the work commute, but it also had an overdrive transmission which made the 4.56 gears very tolerable on the highway.http://videos.streetfire.net/video/0...logy_46662.htm

I always drove it and raced it with 18" drag radials on the back (they were P305/45/18 ) but for that video I bought some cheap $79 standard radials...here's what they looked like after the video was done. There's also a pic of the car sitting next to the $200K Ford GT that a guy I met through another car board gave me a ride in (that was real cool)....

the 55 is a basket case and has NO title so it wont see road time.. I plan on not having rear brakes on it at all..cheap sheet metal after the front seats back. wrapin open headers out under the front wheel wells.. 1 guy around home here has a chevelle just for burnout purposes,, and his burnout party every year is OUT OF CONTROL sweetness.. my uncle owns a junkyard so burnoff tires r easy to store up all year.. |

My car does wicked burnouts. Its a 427BB turbo 400 3500 stall 3.73 gears. I just get it up on the line lock put the pedal to the floor and the stall allows it flash at around 4000 RPM so its instant smoke and instand 1-2shift at 7000 rpm then into third. I can cover the car with smoke in about 6 seconds. Also I installed my 3" exhaust to exit just over the axle with the ends pointing at the back of the rear tires to push the smoke out to the sides.
Here is a vid of one. Only problem is I let the car go forward almost right away. ![]() Here is a better one standing still.

Im a bit confused by a coment earlier.....
I had a 272 gear and a stock convertwer behind my current motor , and had to hold the HELL out of the brakes and let the RPM"S build up slowley ,, and tiers would eventually start to burn out.. I have a 373 and a 3500 converter now and its instant smoke blows 1st gear instant, with out very much pressure holding the brakes... somebody suggested i run a 272 gear for burnouts?? wouildnt that just take longer to get to peak torque RPM?? |
