Default Advice for a first time t-brake user?

Just hooked up the t-brake on my th400 last night and am going racing tomorrow. Any advice for a rookie you guys want to pass on? I read up on some threads and wired in a inline switch so it can't engage on the street with the switch turned off. I've heard that the brake won't engage in anything other than 1st on GM trannies. Any truth to that? I have the button on the t-handle of my B&M megashifter so I'll have to make a concious effort to keep my thumb away from the button during my run until I devise a way to mount it on my steering wheel.

You are correct, low gear only

When you let go of the button move your hand up in the air until shift time, It will take 12 passes to get the feel to get the leave good, You will be like WTH is it not going when im on the gas, your head will then say "let go of the BUTTON"

What tree, a pro tree or a .4 or what? Pro brake? What brake did you get?

If your not racing on a pro tree try this first

** pre stage
** stage push button and deck engine on chip
release trans brake button here

Hopefully your gone with a .010-.015

If you redlight doing this i suggest the following

** pre stage
** stage in between stage and first yellow deck engine on chip

release trans brake button

your gone with a .010-.015 hopefully

If your using a pro tree brack release the trans brake button on the last yellow for starter and your R/T will tell you where to go from there - All this information is without a delay box

I will redlight if I leave any earlier than a brightly lit, 3rd yellow.
And it is a standard release, not pro-tree brake.

Have fun, you might become addicted........

I use the button on the shifter handle of the Cheetah SCS shifter. I have a switch and use the same button for linelock and transbrake.
No "actual" t-brake button.

.500 tree, JW tranny + brake. just tried it out before I loaded on the trailer tonite. The converter flashes to 3400-3500 instead of 2800-3200 like I ordered before I knew what I was doing, so I won't have to get it loosened after all. thanks for the help Butch and Brian. I'll let you guys know how I made out tomorrow night.

Oh ya, for sure... You will love the launch! You might also want to put on a 2 Step set up. That way you can pay attention only to the tree and not have to also be trying to watch the tach.

Or you just push the button and put your foot to the floor with no 2-step like I do

Tighten your seatbelt all the way down. I tweaked my back the first time using it. And that was only with 1.60 60fts.

By the way I leave off the bottom amber coming on, and usually go about 20 red. I have the button on a little box mounted on the floor behind the shifter.

With a 3500 stall there is no need for a 2 step. If it was 5500+, that's a different story.

Deliberately push your head back against the head rest as you are staging, the last thing you want is whiplash from holding your head forward and having inertia and a heavy helmet snap your head back on the launch.

You are going to be so adicted LOL. You need on of these next year. Let us know how you make out. I am on the chip at 5500 and flash to 6500 on launch, what a rush.
