Anyone here have an early build 1970 Monte Carlo? I had one years ago that was built late in 1969 and the Roman Nunerals read 1969 rather than 1970 so I'm trying to find out if any one else knows what I am talking about.
Thanks Randy |

Are you talking about the numbers on the front Emblem? Never noticed.

Where were the numbers you are talking about?
On the engine? If so, where?

I have seen a brochure that was for a 1969 Monte Carlo! They did not make many of them, but it looked different than the 70. Do not remember where the numbers are that you mentioned. I could not believe they actually made a 69, till i saw that factory Brochure, at a show I went to.

Yes I'm talking about the numbers (Roman Numerals) on the emblem on the grille. Some also had the numbers on the trunk emblem also. I didn't mean to imply the car was a 69, just that it was built in late 69. If any one could check their emblems it would be appreciated.
Thanks Randy |

I believe the number on the emblem represents the Model year, Not when it was built. My 71 Monte was built in Dec70 but had 71 in emblems, Don't think there was a 69 Monte Carlo,Just because is was in a brochure doesn't mean it was made. There are pics of 70 Monte Convertibles in the early owners manuals but none made.

Own 3 Montes, 70, 71, and 72, and never noted a roman numeral for '69 (MCMLXIX ? I known 71 is MCMLXXI). I don't think my '70 has the grille emblem, but I will look...

My Chevrolet parts book has interior trim codes for a Monte Carlo convertible that was never built either. There were undoubtedly clay mockups of the 70 MC for a couple of years but no MC was made for sale as a 1969 model. As noted, back-in-the-day, the next model year (say 1970) began production in August of 1969 for September 1969 release.
According to the http://www.firstgenmc.com/tech/differences.shtml - First generation Monte Carlo site... Quote:

Yes, relative to the remainder of the model year running through June/July of 1970.

my dads got a 70 454 supercharged monte that he restored back in the 80s and they made monte in 69 but 70 was the first year similar to how a 2010 car is for sale in 09

Post a picture of the offending grill emblem. I just looked at the original to my 70 and it sure does seem to read 1969. "IX" being the last two numerals.Technically Montes got a late start in September as opposed to most new models coming out in July or August. My build date on that car is 9/69 obviously for the new 1970 model year.
