A couple of 4x4 fence posts will span the body so you can roll the chassis out.look at my picture link.Car has been sitting on them for a few months.Jack up each side a little at a time.
i took the body off the frame in my garage on my 70 and it was way easy...i had everything out though. motor fenders and bumpers. i had two engine hoists and 2 4x6's. just put a tow strap through the rear bumper mounts and tied it off good so i can attach it to the hoist. then i had a tow chain up front that i put through the lower points and hooked the other hoist up to it. after i had that hooked up i just took out all the body mounts and lifted the body up enough to get the frame out. the frame was already on jacks to support it before i lifted the car up. just have some friends there to assist with lifting the hoist up at the same time so it stays level. after we got the frame out i re positioned the jacks and laid the 4x6's across and balanced the body back on them. they hold nice and firm with now worries. i'll try to post some pics to give you a better idea when i get off work today. hope this helps....

When doing so, should the doors remain on or removed? If removed, shouldn't a few metal braces be welded into the door openings to prevent the body from buckling? I know I've seen several pics posted here with boxed channel welded in.
Not as critical with a hardtop but should be done as good insurance on a convertible. Lots of guys dont want to take chances and do it anyway. I figure as long as the pillars, roof and rockers arent shot to hell your fine. Mine is coming off without the doors and no braces but its also completely gutted so no extra weight of any kind in there.
i left the doors in and windows in....the body didn't buckle at all since it's a full shell on the 70. not sure about others out there. I didn't have any issues at all it's very solid and there wasn't any need for welding anything for support. i done a little homework on it by asking every body shop in my area about what they thought of it.
That's exactly how I did it. I use a floor jack with a cushioned face at the pinch welds of the rocker (did not damage it at all), and then slipped a jack stands under the pinch welds. I worked around the car about 1 inch at a time like this unstil I could get a 7ft wide 4x4 between the body and the frame. I then jacked it up from the ends of the 4x4's.
I used some 1"x2" square tubing instead of lumber, 4 jackstands and a floor jack. Worked great for me. Not sure how easy it will be to put back together though.
My Symantic/Norton anti-virus located the "W32.Kitro.C.Worm" when I clicked on the above link. I altered it so anyone else clicking on it ABOVE won't get their computer infected.
Supposedly, users of Car Domain indicated that the site is SAFE and that the Threat has since been removed from their old files.
I know this doesn't answer your question on how to do it with jacks, but..
Check out this previous post I made regarding how I lifted my body off of the frame,
includes a couple of pictures. Hope this helps!
Much easier than I had thought.. be sure and get some kind of padding under the pinchweld or you will be spending time pounding that out! (you can see the blue stuff on the posts)
i took some pictures today of my 69 vert off the frame and on some bocks.one thing i did not like was if you give it a little nudge.the car would rock back and forth.i have played with blocks as a kid and seen them come crashing down.so what i did was hung some safety chains from four points up to the rafters above.this was not to support the car just give me enough time to get out from under it if some where to happen.i have seen some other pictures posted of cars on blocks and they dont look to safe.just a little extra step to insure safety.
Not sure how old this post is but i searched a lot to see if it could be done. ended up trying and yes you can pull off the body through the trunk. Just drilled 2 3/8 inch holed through the openings in the rear re-enforcement. Sorry, my garage is usually a lot cleaner but just couldn't wait to pull her off. The fun begin,s. Maybe looking for a few tips from you guys & gals shortly.
