Hey guys, looking at my charging system, and getting this thing back on the road. I dont remember if the GRD post on the alternator actually needed to be directly grounded to something. I seem to almost remember a strap or wire going from that post up to a bolt on the alternator bracket itself maybe?
Could someone refresh my memory on this, been trying to look at pics of other guys engines, and its hard to tell if there is another wife back there most of the time. BTW this is externally regulated if that matters. Thanks!
No, you don't have to connect anything to the "ground" post on the alternator. It gets its ground thru the case and the mounting bracket. As long as the bolts are tight, and brackets/mounts are corroded, it will work fine.
Not sure if yours used the ground or not. The alt needs to be grounded but if the mounting is metal to metal and not painted over you won't need it. Some ran a ground wire from the alt post to the reg. If you do find another wife back there in the pictures, you better not let the other wife see it.
Lol, i totally missed that when i first typed it. I dont think she would be too happy if i found another one!
