i got a 66 chevelle, im going to be painting it soon. i wanna do something different. i was thinking about going with the big SS stripes, because u never see it. i was wondering if there's a reason for that..do stripes look that stupid on a 66? got any pics of anything???
if you are talking about the dual wide stripes on a 70-72 putting them on a 66 then yes, they will look odd and out of place. In fact to me they look odd and out of place on any car other than a 69-70something Camaro or 70-72 Chevelle.
A 66 is such a clean car why would you want to do that to it? If it is trying to look different then try wheels, leave the stripes to the newer chevelles and camaros.
Please don't do it. There's a damned good reason you don't see those stripes on a 66!
If you want something different, do a FOOSE styled two tone if you HAVE TO DO something. A solid color looks the best and it will never go out of style, especially if it's a factory color or a slight variation on it.
You could also do a 60's 'gasser' style paint job, if you stuck with that whole theme, like jacked up front end, big tires sticking out the rear wheel wells.... maybe a small jungle of injection tubes sticking out of the hood.... ANYTHING but band -aid stripes
Well, it is a personal opinion... I have seen many over the years, and never seen one I liked.
IMO, they were ugly because of the stripes. Of course, it also seemed like most of the '66s with stripes were "low-budget" anyway (cheezy "chrome" 14" wheels, cheap pull-on hose covers in the engine compartment, etc).
I vote for only SS stripes on the 70-72 cars. I have seen a few 69's that look decent with them, but the boxy style of the 64-67 cars, no way. It just doesn't look right.
 i think those stripes on jamie's 66 look right decent . [ different ] probably a little puzzling to some people , which would make conversation . i wonder what that hood would look like with the 66 grills incorporated into the sides of the scoop . now that would be different !
I forgot about the 11th commandment before I painted my car:
11. THOU SHALT NOT PAINT SS STRIPS ON ANY 64-67 CHEVELLE.
Geez, tough crowd, but I didn't paint it to please you guys . Everyone has their opinion on this, but the one that matters is the one that owns the car. Some like it, some don't.

Good choice to leave them off. I toyed with putting them on my '69 and in the end left them off, because they just look out of place on the wrong year cars.
That car looks awesome...please send me some updates pics!!!
