The smugglers box can be done, but does not usually offer good sound and is usually hard to seal from the elements.

I mounted two in the dash under pad since, but some models only came with provision for one speaker in the center. Plus one in each door. Six speakers under the shelf below the back window. Two 10" speakers in truck boxes. Two amps, one running the two 10s, while the other ran the rest. Has been more than enough so far.

The kick panels also offer a good spot. Some have also build center consoles with locations.

Here are some pictures of my set up. I did use the smugglers box for my 12” Subs. I lined it with Dynamat.

The amps where mounted under the seat.

Subs all done

Three speakers in each door 2” Highs 5” Mids and 6” Subs. Here a picture of the top part of the door finished. The tweeters are right in front of the Mids You really can’t see it from the picture.

Here’s a couple of pictures of the job complete.

Thanks guys! :beers:

Not sure if you can see it in the picture but what I did was lay the MDF board right on top of rubber strips 1/8 thick and 1” wide. I also used silicone for a better seal. If you look at the wood you can see that I drilled five holes and ran lag bolts with locking nuts and rubber lined washers on the back “Metal” side. The fabric used is tweed. Hope this helps and good luck with your systems.

Some NICE installs and great work so far. Makes me reluctant to show mine.
For my 67 I wanted a retro-stock look. without distracting from the classic 60's look too far.

Coated the inside of the door skins with rubberized undercoating,
Covered the entire interior with dynomat extreme (was a bare shell so 'everything' roof, floor, doors, firewall, rear wall,,, EVERYTHING was accessible and dynomated)

Made a false rear wall from standard interior hardboard, then ordered a piece of rolled carpet from the carpet maker for OPG (who supplied my interior kit)
Made some corners enclosures to house a pair of Polk 5-1/2" components. I refused to cut anything to add the speakers, and still wanted it to be 'semi' period correct. Ended up adding a self powered Kenwood sub behind the passengers seat that doesn't show in the pictures. The Polk momo components just do not project enough bass. Tucking the amp and powered sub down further out of site is a project for another day.

Here's a link to a fish-eye vies of the rear wall and corner enclosures

and a close up of the corner enclosures

and the finished interior with speakers tucked out of sight

How do you like the polks (other than not enough bass). I ended up buying infinity 5x7 components instead (on sale!)..

I have this set of momo's in my Camino, and another set in my 94 4x4. I can say being tucked back in the corner behind the seat doesn't let them shine as well as them being in the kick panel. The truck will rock your boat BIG TIME! The Camino,, aaaaahhh not so much but it's good and clean. And speaking of boat, my oldest has infinity speakers in his boat (not sure of size,, like four 6's and two 12's.) It's really crisp. I think next time I will use all Infinity just to get a good comparison. Not that the Polks are 'bad',, just what I see so far,, I think you probably made a wiser move than I.

K.. Just put my speakers in tonight. Used some left over headliner fabric to cover the box. Thanks for the ideas (my sub and amp are in the smugglers hatch). Not quite as custom as some of the others, but I didn't want to mess with the interior too much..
