In my local Terre Haute,Indiana paper classifieds yesterday and today, with small pic.
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396/350HP,Original $7400 OBO.(765)396-8700 call for details and gave an email also.
Pic shows a black, white stripes and cowl induction hood, with original SS wheels.Very good looking car.Called and left a message. Havent heard back.
Is this:
A.Too good to be true?
B. A scam (send me a grand and I will hold it for you)
C.A guy who knows what its really worth and wants to be stroked.
D.?

I already bought it and I'm not interested in selling it for anything less than $182,395.99
sorry bud you're too late:D

The part I cannot figure out is why they arrived at the $7400 price? If they put something more realistic, like $17,500, they would probably get more suckers to send the deposit.

Google the landline for the address and do a drive by to see if you can see it. Never know.

whenever I see post like this I kind of laugh. Im a firm believer in you snooze you lose. It doesnt cost anything to call and worst case you waste a couple hours driving to look at a pile of junk, BUT if you dont go you'll never know. A few years back there was a 69 Z28 advertised in the paper for $700. Been sitting, no title but the guy was willing to give a bill of sale etc. I went and looked at it and it wasnt a Z28 but a SS350 with a 4 speed,12 bolt and a SS hood. I could not talk my wife into letting me drag it home that night. I heard from another guy that called the next morning that it was sold by 6 am. (only reason I got there first was I worked at the paper and we printed the classifieds the evening before). Still wished I could have got that one. jim

They probably put a phone number on there to make people think there's some legitimitacy to the ad.You email them, then the scamming begins.

What are they most interested in getting from the people who reply ? Are looking just for any specific information or just all the stuff they can get ?

Ok I've been playin around with this person regarding the car that they don't have for sale.
I get this email from someone calling themselves Angela. She claims that she has since moved from Indiana to Loveland Colorado.
She/he has sent me every pic that Ohio Corvette and Muscle Cars (the actual seller) has regarding the car.
She/he also states that virtually everything on the car has been replaced (new).
What is scary is that there is some knowledge regarding chevelles.

When I hear back from her/him/it I'll post more info. I'm trying to figure out their whole scam here and maybe...maybe make them have a very bad day.

Ok...they are moving fast now....they must smell a potential victim.
This is what I just received from them through email.

You are not in the 500 miles, I'll ship you the car for $200, you will receive it in 4 days and you'll pay the shipping fees when you'll receive it ( COD ) I asked for your zip because I want to use Amazon Payments for completing the sale. They will hold the money until you will receive and inspect the car.
Here are the transaction steps ( please read carefully ):
1. Both parties agree to terms of the transaction, which includes: description and pictures ( showing current condition of the item ), sale price ( $7,400.00 ), number of days for the Buyer's inspection ( 3 days from delivery date ).
2. The Buyer submits payment to Amazon Payments. When payment is received, it will be verified and secured into a non-interest bearing trust account.
3. Upon payment verification, the Seller is authorized to ship merchandise and submit tracking information. The Buyer must pay the shipping fees cash-on-delivery. The Seller is responsible for the return shipping fees if the item is rejected.
4. Amazon Payments® tracks the shipped merchandise and verifies it was delivered: the Amazon Payments® Representative will contact the Buyer 24 Hrs before delivery in order to setup delivery date/time. The inspection period will not begin until the Amazon Payments® Representative has confirmed delivery of the merchandise.
5. Buyer Accepts/Rejects the merchandise: the Buyer has a set number of days (3 days from delivery date) for an inspection and the option to accept or reject the merchandise.
5.a) Buyer Accepts the merchandise, the Amazon Payments® Representative will contact the Buyer when the Inspection Period ends. If the Buyer decides to accept the item The Seller is paid and the title transfer will take place.
5.b) If the Buyer rejects the merchandise, the merchandise/payment* will be returned to the Seller/Buyer
* Buyer will be refunded ( FULL REFUND = $7,400.00+Shipping fees ) using the same method as Buyer paid.
Send me your complete name, address and shipping address and we can move forward with this deal.

They are faster than the speed of light now.....they thinkie they got one on the hook.

I contacted Amazon Payments and opened a new transaction case with you so they should contact you with the complete details of this transaction shortly. I will wait for Amazon Payments to send me the valid payment confirmation in order to proceed with the shipping process. I'll start shipping and the car will be delivered to you in 4 days. Along with the car you will receive the title, original invoice, service records and manuals. If you'll decide to keep the car after the inspection period ends you will receive a bill of sale ( notarized ), you'll do all the paperwork with the Amazon Payments® Representative.
Keep in touch,
Angela
PS: Let me know when you'll receive the invoice, I'll prepare the car for shipping

LOL,you are right, they're afraid you'll "throw the hook".The sad part is there are hundreds or thousands that fall for this and lose tons of money.
