I'm thinking of add a vacuum switch. Are they all the same or are there differences. Are any adjustable. What year and model car is a good source. Thanks,

Pat,

Here is the 200-4r page. It is part number 376600.

200-4R

Also, here is the manual for the kit. At the end, it describes how to change the vacuum switch setting.

Lock-up Kit Instructions

I have it installed in my tranny and it works.

My tranny shifts to fourth and locks up almost at the same time. The same when it down shifts. Does anyone know if I need to change the lock-up pressure?

Theo.

The TCC is already wired with the BTO wiring setup. I have a manual switch for 4th gear only, off completely, and 2nd - 3rd - 4th lockup. The problem arises when the car slows down, like with slow traffic on the freeway, and then I need to accelerate. The convertor stay locked and the engine lugs until I force a downshift or manually turn off the TCC.

Looks like the TCI switch is in their kit, which I don't need. Steve, could you find out if the vac switch is available separately? I wonder if they are re-packaging a GM unit.

I have GM part # 14007803 as a vaccuum thermal switch. I don't know if its adjustable or not. The thermal switch part was used to ensure the TC didn't lockup till operating temp was reached.

This switch is under $10 at GMparts direct.

I did some checking at Chevy dealer and the number Wayner gave doesn't look like it will work. It is a thermally controlled vacuum switch with no electrical connections. The picture at tci looks like what I need. One vacuum port and two electrical connections. Now to find out if it is available separately.

77 Cruiser, it looks like GM controls the TCC on the ground side so all their controls are designed for this (i.e. internal grounding). My setup is grounded in the trans and the positive leg controls the TCC.

The GM vac. switch is a 2 wire so you could just put it inline on the positive wire.

Thanks, Jim, for the picture. That is a different part than the Chevy dealer had for the PN you posted. What he had screwed into the water jacket and had two vacuum ports with no wiring terminals. He suggested, but didn't have (special order), PN 14014519. Would this be what you have?

I don't know what the part no. is but it looks like the one in the pic. I'll look tomorrow & see if there is a no. on it.

Sorry about that vaccuum switch part number, I was looking to do the same thing as you were and i was given that part number on another site and told it would work. But its obviously for another application.

The correct GM number is 14014519. I found this on a couple different sites. About $40 from the local Chevy dealer and about $30 from a local parts store that carries Delco.
