Do you think the car is worth what he is asking?

I know next to nothing about Chevelle's, I am going to give him a call and find out more about the car..
I stopped by to look at it but it was covered in snow.. seemed to be in good shape from what I could tell. I have always wanted a Chevelle, and although I think that big-block would be more fun, the car is a 4 speed and the interior looks to be in good shape.

What do you think it is worth [if not 15,000$]

Well, It is a clone car..
I am not sure if it is a V6 car or what..
I don't know much about Chevelle's specifically,
but I do know a pretty decent amount about SBC's, and Chevy cars in general.

I want to find out if the car is a 10 bolt or a 12 bolt..
What kind of 4 speed is in the car.. etc
I am also going to guess it's not a # matching car.

I am going to check it out more closely when its not covered in snow..
But I was just wondering what some opinions on the value of a 70 clone car is.

Thanks a ton guys!!

To clone something is to make an exact copy witch the car is not. Sweep dash and flat hood are dead give aways for just a start. 10k to 12k would be my tops and only if the body is near perfect. Brand new paint jobs scare the crap out of me. Put it on a rack before you buy it. If its nice underneath its probably ok. He said it was a 350 so its not a V6. It might be a good idea if you really want it to see if you can find someone local to go look at it with you. Good luck.

I meant originally a V6 car, sorry I didn't clarify.

I can usually tell the shape of the car [bondo etc] There is a 1970 Cutlass Supreme Convertible and a 1969 Camaro SS in my familys garage right now, but I passed this and thought the car looked like a good deal..
But if it is a Malibu, I dont think I would pay 15K for it.

Thats why I came to ask you guys about it :)
I'm going to stop by and see if I can talk him down.

What else can I point out that makes it a Malibu?

Thanks!!

Chris,

Any SS clone or tribute (or whatever you choose to call it) is typically a Malibu, 2dr sport coupe with emblems and stripes etc. SS cars are built on that platform, so seeing as you know it was not a true SS, thats all it could be. Just like a Olds 442 tribute would really be a Cutllas.

You also must keep in mind that prices up here are higher than the US. Its pretty hard to find anything decent, even a Malibu, for less than 20K cdn funds. Not sure where the market is at now, but everyone was asking big dollars this summer in southern ontario and not much was moving that I saw. Anything that was priced under 20K seemed to be junky in my books. If the body is good with little filler, and paint is nice then I would think the price is reasonable considering green bench interior, flat hood, small block.

For reference, I sold a 72 Malibu 2 years ago for about this price, strong 396, disc brakes, 12 bolt posi, all steel body, older but nice paint, perfect bench interior, rallies. Obviously the 70 model is in more demand. but you get the idea.

Good Luck.

I was unaware that all Chevelles were SS.
I understand about cloning a car, however I had figured that it might have been a lower level Chevelle cloned into an SS... but now that I know that there is no non SS Chevelle.. It makes sense!

I noticed that everyone was asking big money this summer, but since the economy started to go for crap, I have found some really good deals on some nice cars..

I wasn't saying that all Chevelles were SS's. If its not a real SS, which you know since its being called a clone, then its a Malibu dressed in SS trim.

Still not unreasonable money in CANADIAN $$ (15K cdn = 12K us). No doubt there are cheaper cars stateside, but when you add 30% currency exchange and pay 5% tax at the border, and haul it back blah blah, you will see that you might have been better of with the one back home. Assuming of course that its a nice car and its what you want.

Chris, chevy didn't use a V6 in the 70 chevelle. It would be a straight 6 if it was a 6.

The front parking lights are malibu, the side moldings are malibu, the rear bumper is malibu. As stated above, the sweep style speedometer is malibu.
