Doubt you guys car but...

Doing yard renovation, I feel what George goes through. I ripped out a bunch of shrubs and 5 decent size trees and took them to the dump. 2 trips, heres a pic from the first load..

Sweet work truck :D
The second load were the trees in the top left of picture. They were blocking view out of the kitchen and had to go. My mommy (;)) is helping me pick out replacements that wont be so overpowering. I used a sawzall to cut them all down and a pick axe to remove them. Some of them were very very difficult to remove.

Heres the back yard after clearing and cleaning the whole place up. Lots of work removing mega amounts of concrete blocks that were used as a retaining wall and the shrubs. There was also a ridiculous concrete patio I had to remove. (see mom + Kona)

Heres a pic of the thousands of pounds on conrete I moved up to the front yard. Going to put it on craigslist for free soon.

Cool stuff Brett. I wonder if anyone noticed the collector plate on the El Camino?:D....since it's not supposed to be for anything but 'hauling @$$'.

I kind of doubt anyone will take all that concrete....but you may try locally about concrete recycling. Down here there's Randle's Sand and Gravel and they recycle yard waste, concrete, etc. even for homeowners for free...you just have to get it there.

Hmm, have not heard about that. I have seen broken concrete on craigslist for free before and figured that maybe someone will want it. I'll give it a try, if it doesnt work, its probably 3-4 trips in the camino. :(

I don't want to taint my own thread with reno stuff, so I'll just hijack yours. :D

I'll be replacing our dishwasher today. The old one was getting grouchy and stopped making me dinner and doing the laundry. ;)

Let's hope she doesn't read this.

Actually, I do have to re and re the dishwasher.
Water + Electricity + Limited Electrical Aptitude = Fun, Fun, Fun :hurray:

My brother really pissed off his wife once. I walked in and he was pouring a huge glass of wine and when I asked why he was pouring such a large glass, he just said "I'm loading my dishwasher". His wife was not impressed, but I thought it was hilarious.

I can't believe George hasnt responded to a thread in his honor! :(
Maybe there should be a thread called "A day in the life of Brett!", I bet he'd respond to that one:yes:.

As far as all the wife comments....I wouldn't know either b/c I've never been married, but I'm not a fan of people standing there watching me work either. I like making comments/sarcastic remarks when that happens, one of my favorite opportunities.

Any excuse to use a sawzall is a good day in my book!

We got a blue spruce as a gift and it "accidentally" died - carved that sucker up with the sawzall. Fun stuff!

Side bar - blue spruces have a shallow root system and would blow down instantly once it hit 8 feet tall during our frequent prairie wind storms. I suggested to someone that hermiston's town motto should be "it really blows in hermiston" but it didn't go over to well, not sure why? ;)

EDIT - if your side bar is longer than what you meant to say anyway, it is just random drivel (like this and my other 5000+ posts) and probably not a sidebar.

This post makes me feel better. I thought I was the only one slaving away in the yard while "someone" peers out the window periodically probably just to make sure I have keeled over dead. I kindly reminded her today that since we aren't married she get's no insurance if I croak in the hot sun....not sure if she was disappointed or not.:D

I had to rip out bushes that my (ex marine corp drill instructor) neighbor said looked like "a terd sandwich". Lay that weed barrier stuff, lay mulch on top, fix the upstairs shower/tub. Thankfully I usually don't get comments from the peanut gallery while I work, it's just creepy to look up and see her looking out the window from inside the AC'd house at me.

Brett,

I actually passed through your neck of the woods today enroute to The Summit. Went over to the Alpental Ski area, parked, and took the family on a little walk to Snow Lake. Four miles uphill to the most beautiful scenery I have seen in some time. Nice picnic lunch overlooking the lake. The walk back was much easier. Attack Dog Dale made it up and back but he has not moved much since getting home, dinner, and his bath.

I have a 1982 house. Still updating it and the yard. I may never finish. But the list does get smaller. The shrubs don't cut themselves nor does the deck get sanded and stained by osmosis.....requires your time and energy. We just decided a family outing would be a good thing the other day...so we pencilled the trip in. Weather ROCKED for the last day of summer.

Ahh, the beauty of owning an El Camino. :D

Been working every night after work until past dark. Removed all the trees, plants, weeds, grass etc and covered the front and back with 10 yds of top soil. Hydroseeding scheduled for Monday.

Back Yard:
Going to put plants along the house to the left, around the master balcony, along the fence for privacy, and in the back.

Front Yard

Heres whats next. Going to remove all that crap in there and just get some good ground cover. You can see I only have enough dirt for a few more low spots.
Note the I-405 retaining wall. :D My location is actually an exit offramp but still plenty of freeway noise. Was worth it for how much you save though.

Heres a shot from the front of the driveway. You guys are welcome anytime. I like that it just looks like a regular 2 car garage.

I was also curious, what do you guys think of painting the chain link fence black to hide it a bit?

I've had black chain-link fences - doesn't seem to hide much, just makes it black. I would go with a dull grey/aluminum color - make it look new and clean.

I saw a t-shirt that read: Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes!
