I have searched the forums relating to 4 spd setups etc. I am reassembling my 68 4 spd and I have a couple of questions. Does the z bar stud screw into the hole tapped above the oil filter or the one in the bellhousing? It seenms like a very extreme angle to mount the stud into the bellhousing. Also, where does the clutch return spring hookup? BTW it was a factory auto that was converted over by the previous owner. It worked perfectly before I pulled the engine/tranny. Thanks.

The stud mounts above the oil filter in the block. The return spring hooks on the fork and to the frame. There is a small slotted hole on the side of the frame rail, it's forward of the area where the z-bar bracket is mounted to the frame. Run your finger along the side of the frame and you'll find it. The frame is pushed in slightly in front of the hole sol the end of the spring will slide into. Of course if you have headers forget it, they'll probably be in the way and you'll have to find a different mounting location.

My 67 has a "bung" for lack of a better term, that is actually part of the floorboard. Works fine witrh big 2" Hookers. Man, now you have me thinking of whether its part of the frame rail or not. I'm almost certain its not.

I think, not sure, that 68-72 are set up a little different. As suggested by some others here I used a stainless steel hose clamp around number 5 header tube and hooked the spring to that. Provides enough tension and doesn't scrap anything, maybe it's number 3 tube, whatever.
