: 70 SS dash?
Chevy 70 SS vert Aug 15th, 05, 9:43 PM I know there are numerous posts about this subject but I need to ask, what I think is a different question regard the SS 70 dash.
Is it better to buy a repop dash ( since I would know the plastic isn't brittle and probably won't crack when I install it). Or should I try and pick up a used one that is in decent shape and repair the flaws and hope to get all the other pieces that come with it (like the under the steering column plastic piece, an ash tray, glove box door).
I plan to buy new guages anyway. Car is a clone anyway so originalty isn't vital.
BlueSS454 Aug 16th, 05, 1:01 AM If you don't already hav ean SS dash, you will probably need to get one anyways since there are 3 specific parts you cannot get new. Those are the brake light lens, high beam lens, and the 4 tower screw bosses for the heater control unit. I installed one of the repop dash housings in my 70 and the fit was ok, but I did have to wrestle with it a little bit to get it to fit. As far s bolting all the other stuff on like gauges, A/C vents, radio, etc, it all fit nice. I would try to find a decent used one.

If these parts are not available what is every body else doing to correct these issues?
Mr69 Aug 21st, 05, 1:11 AM I'll elaborate on this in the coming week.
I'm wrestling with one right now.
Hey BlueSS454, what did you end up doing about the heater control mounting ?
There's nothing to screw to on the pass side.
Are you supposed to nut and bolt to that funky bracket that they have on there ?
What is the deal with the split standoffs ?
With the headlights on and the dash lights lit up, I've also got light coming thru the L and R turn signal indicators, the BRAKE lense and the high beam indicator. When none of them are on ! Is this right ?

Mr69 Aug 22nd, 05, 3:33 AM Just picked up a 72 Monte dash from a friend. I see what's missing now.
There are 2 clip on type nuts that go on the standoffs on the pass side for the heater conytrols. A very odd looking clip/nut combo.
I hope somebody is making these things.
I'm starting to think that the light coming thru the sig indicators and HB and brake is normal.

70rag Jan 7th, 11, 6:05 PM i found those clips came with my dash conversion from ground up.. i actually broke one and soldered it back together... i heard that this specail nut is used to mount 85 thru 89 monte carlo headlight switch,,,dont know if that is true
blue83z Jan 7th, 11, 6:11 PM I bought a repop dash about 3-4 years ago from Year One. The fit was really nice, but the script (wiper washer, etc) is so far off, its not funny. I wish I would have cought it before I installed it. Grain is not quite right, and not everything that should be silver was.
