Decision time. 2 supply houses in town 2 blocks from each other.
Both have been helpful with questions so far.
I'm trying to decide what paint to go with.
I leaning toward PPG mostly because it seems to be popular here in the posts. Anybody want to give opinions ?

I think you should go with the PPG simply because a ton of folks here use it. They know the PPG line and can give lots of advice related to their products and I think we all know it is good stuff.
Here is a link for tech info on PPG products:

I am using Sherwin Williams Ultra Fill II urethane primer surfacer only because I bought it very early on in my project and before I found my PPG supplier. BTW, the Ultra Fill II is great and can be applied over PPG epoxy primers and under PPG basecoats, but of course you will want to go all PPG or all Sherwin Williams. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the reply Texas70, It's nice to have a place to bounce ideas off people.

Both are fine quality products, Ive sprayed both.

I think the deciding factor should be what YOUR local area shops use! Sure PPG does seem to be the stand out brand on just about all the forums I visit, but if something goes a mist WE CANT FIX IT.

I would ask around see what brand is the most used and WHY and find out how well that paint company supports its users in your area.

You can have the best darn paint in the world but if the tech support for that paint sucks then the paint job will will follow suit.

If you dont have anyone to answer your questions how you think that paint job will look??

A few years ago we switched from S-W to PPG for pretty much one simple reason and guess what that reason was??? Lack of support

I can see a HUGE difference in the final outcome of the paint that we are putting out simply because we NOW have the support. If I have questions about a method or a new product I get it answered normally within a few minutes. As where with S-W it was at times months graemlins/sad.gif

Now am NOT knocking S-W paint what so ever I think they have a good product but the support in MY area was non-existent

I'm convinced PPG is the way to go, but I'm reading Omni is not so good.
Are people picky or is there another PPG line that would be good for a weekend driver ?
I'm not looking for a show car, just a 5 footer

I'm not looking for a show car, just a 5 footer I am painting my car myself and asked the team what would be a good affordable PPG paint for my first paint job and was told that the "OMNI" line was a budget line of PPG generally for the auto/body industry. I have painted several items on my car (BC/CC) at this point and I think it looks awesome. Sure, I could have spent twice as much, but I'm not building a showcar, just a weekend racer. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
