I am in process of restoring a 68 SS396. I am trying to decide what the stock "look" was for a Jun 68 built car. Was the black lower panel manditory on a matador red car in June. Was there a rule on which cars had the black stripes. Also which vehicles had the lower chrome mouldings. Would I be correct if I had the red mouldings, no stripes and no lower blackened panels.
Any advice would be appreciated.

All red 68 SS-396 got the black rockers, with moldings, with either black or white pin stripes. You could also order the optional over the nose stripe in black or white, but you wouldn't get both. Only a couple dark color 68's had body color rockers but red wasn't one of them..
