I am posting this here because all of you have the 'verts and may have a better perspective. I am in the process of taking my interior back to stock from a custom cloth from the early 90's (looks mod). I am going to go back to the vinyl and the original interior was red but the dash was coverted to black, does anyone out there have experience with the dark interior getting too hot with the top down? Such as the black. I am considering red but not sure on that one either. Opinions are a help, thanks!

Let me tell ya, a black interior in a convert gets HOT!! After 18 years of having a convert with a Parchment (white) interior, we bought our current Chevelle with black interior. The past two summers were unusually cool here, so it wasn't too bad. This summer has been overall the hottest I can ever remember and it is like riding around in a cast iron skillet :( :( I have another set of seats and interior panels that will be getting redone in Parchment and installed before next summer. The original black ones will be kept intact so I can switch back if I ever want to.

Park it in the shade, get bird crap on the seats. Park it in the sun, fry your legs like crispy bacon. I usually have a towel handy to sit on. I've gotten nasty burns from those seats before. COnsidered off and on going with a lighter color when I redo the interior.

Black gets VERY HOT!! But it's no big deal to carry a couple of towels to sit on. My son learned QUICK not to jump in after football practice with shorts on! Keeps his towel handy now.

Does the red get as hot as the black?

I wish I knew
if I ever finish mine off - I will find out though
but a friend of mine has a 69 impala drop top with red interior
he says it gets real hot too
as for the difference - not sure - but it is only a flick of the switch to put the top up

I have a red leather interior convertible and it and I've never had problems with heat in S. California. I really like it and it looks great with the silver exterior paint. I get TONS of compliments. Of course, it helps that the interior was designed by Revo of Stitchcraft Interiors. This guys is a genious...

Isn't leather different in it's heat retaining capacity than vinyl? It always seems to feel cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter to me. Sounds like a cool car in either case. Got any pictures to share?

It may be, but I also had black leather interior convertible cars and they were getting HOT in the summer.
