: Cage Nuts?

I've twisted one of the body bolts on my 65 off. It's one of the bolts for the middle brace under the floorpan. The pan is already out for replacement, so I figured to try to remove the bolt before I put it back together, just in case. It did, indeed, twist apart, so now I know I need to get new bolts and probably new cage nuts.

Reading through searches here, it looks like the only place to order new cage nuts is from our sponsor. However, the picture on their page ( http://www.ss396.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/BOLTS/2410.jpg ), item #BCN-716 ("1964+ CHEVELLE 7/16") does not look like what I've got. I've not yet removed the old cage nut, but it looks like it's a flat 1/4 inch plate about 2 inches square held in by the cage, much larger than the illustration.

Are these from Ground Up the right ones - is the picture wrong? If these are the right ones, is 10 the proper quantity for a 65 convertible? I'm all ready to order, but would hate to order the wrong stuff.

Thanks.

I know what you mean - I helped a buddy, and his look like yours, we just welded the 2 inch piece back onto the frame.

Just my observation - not really an answer.... sorry

If you can reuse the nut, maybe you could bend some new cages and weld them in. The only problem with welding the nut directly to the frame is that it could make lining up bolts to holes difficult.

I am in the process of a frame off on a 72 Chevelle and I had two cage nuts that broke.
I ended up doing as scooter suggested. I drilled out the bolts from the nuts, cleaned up the threads, then just bent up a couple of strips of metal to make my own cage. I left it big enough to have some adjustment, then welded them in. Worked great.

Alright... thanks, all, I think I saved about 69.90 after all http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif I'll do just as suggested, I'll make my own and re-cage them. I might be able to reuse the existing cage, if I'm careful. Otherwise, I get to make new ones.

Thanks again.
