I found a Millermatic 135 Welder and Cart for sale, brand new (little to no useage) .... for $500.00. Is this a good welder? I haven't looked at it yet, but I believe is is a newer unit with a variable power setting. Are there any questions I should ask the seller? Is this one of those welders that would come from a welding shop, or a "lesser quality" version he could have gotten from a Fleet and Farm store?

Any comments welcome .....

We have about five of these at work and I find that it is a very nice welder. It is limited to 1/8" metal MAX but for sheet metal it is GREAT.

If this is the newer one with the variable heat setting you may find an enteresting problem. We have two of these in the shop and when we first got them I found that one of them wouldn't weld worth a darn. It was like the gas was off ( be sure you have the gas, flux wire is NOT for automotive work), it just worked like crap. The regulator was a "fixed" type without a knob, but a set screw and nut. I brought the pressure up and still, it welded like the gas was off.

I was on another autobody forum on the net and someone brought up this problem. A poster said that Miller had a problem with those regulators and he got a new one, end of problem. WOW, I had just experianced this and it looks like I had the answer. I went to work and swaped the regulators with an old worn out welder and sure enough, end of problem.

So, think about this, your seller may have had this problem and that is why the welder is for sale! Or at the very least you will know if you buy it.

To reiterate, it is a fine welder, use on everyday and I recommend it.

That's a pretty decent price. I paid around $800 for mine, maybe a little less, but that included the purchase of the gas bottle also. I'm very happy with it and have had no problems to report. Even if the regulator does give me a problem down the road, they are easily replaceable. That should NOT deter you from buying this welder.
