I have a 1967 chevelle ss that I want to put an aluminum intake on. It has a 396 in it with only a stock cast iron intake. I was considering an Edelbrock performer rpm, but in the summit magazine it says that performer rpm will not clear the hood of a 1967 chevelle. Does anyone know if this is true and if so... any ideas of a good intake to use. 396 block 350 horse oval port 063 heads. thanks.

If you can find one, try a stock L78 intake and Holley carb of your choice. Despite the port mismatch, the intake works fine and you instantly have an L78 Chevelle. Worked for us.

Why wouldn't an RPM Air Gap work? According to the latest Hot Rod article it's the best thing going -- when making power up to 6500 rpm and under 500 cubes....
fits under my hood just fine... along with a 14X2 in K&N Filter.

Steve,
Is your car a big block? That I believe may be the dilemma here. I'm kind of answering for my friend here, I'm helping him work on this car.

ss1967, I'm running a RPM airgap on my 502 with a 1/2" spacer underneath (for PCV connection). I'm using a 1 or 1 1/2" drop base air cleaner (can't remember which) and a 3" filter and it just clears the stock SS hood on my 66. If I didn't need the 1/2" spacer it would fit even better.

I have a 67 with a 427 & I run a edelbrock performer rpm. I'm using a 1 1/2" drop base with a 3" K&N filter & have 3/4" clearance.

I have the same car. I remember them saying that also. I put on a RPM also. But, w/ my drop base air cleaner, I had to go to a 2 1/2" air cleaner instead of the 3". With the 3" it would rub bad on the hood.

I remember the same "NOTE" when I was considering an Air Gap, made multiple trips to the store with my tape measure, looked like a flake, and then like an anal retentive flake when I actually brought in my old Wieand Intake,Nos plate, 4150 as an assembly to compare on their countertop. Ignore the disclaimer, I agree with previous posts, it'll fit fine. I have had three totally different carburetors (4150 w/man choke air horn was the tallest) all fit fine with K&N 14"X3" drop base filter, in my '66 Big Block. Use bolt rather than stud and nut, you'll be ****ed if the stud pokes the hood.

Rowdy, I have the rpm performer and have very close hood clearance now. I also wanted to go with the Airgap, After checking the difference in height, I stayed with the performer. I probably could have changed breathers and it would have fit. I just didnt want to take the chance. I like my current K&N filter.
