I am finishing putting my 68 back together after a frame off and have run in to the following problem. Brake lights and directionals work, but when I signal a right with the brakes on the left brake light does not work. When I try with a left directional the right brake light works fine. The tail lights work fine also.
The problem only occurs when signaling a right turn.
Any Idea's?
Thanks, Tom

Normally a bad ground to the socket. As a test take a piece of wire. Touch one end to a known good ground on the car. Touch the other end to the light bulb base. Right where it meets the glass. Now see how the light behaves with the test jumper wire in place.

Thanks John,
I tryed running a seperate ground to the bulb and the problem did not go away.
I 'm wondering if it is a problem with the directional mechanism in the steering column?

Dang. The easy idea didn't work. Try checking for 12 volts to a good ground on the rear left yellow wire. Try it at the rear bulb first with the brake pressed and the right signal selected. If you don't see 12 volts there, repeat the test at the turn signal connector on top of the steering column.

Hi there, I saw this same problem in an earlier thread. The guy replaced the turn signal unit. It is the plug in round canister looking thing that you can get at any auto parts store. I hope this helps.....Phil

Thanks all for the help, and JIML82 for this link for a 68.
I changed the directional switch and my problems went away!
