the SHROUD, that is. I finally got around to having my front suspension rebuilt and now when i make a hard left turn, i hear a loud sort of clack-clack-clack noise under the hood. could it be my fan shroud is flexing and hitting the fan?? i checked under the hood, and it does not look like there are blade marks on the inside of the shroud. any ideas??

Sounds like they ripped the boot on the Ball joint.

upon more investigation, the fan is in fact hitting the shroud on the upper inside diameter, just in front of the alternator. argh!! is there some way i can prevent this??

Check the left motor mount....

Good advice to check the motor mounts.
Second thing to look at is the radiator support and it's mounts to the frame. They're so bad on my 'Camino that the whole front end sags, and the door/fender gaps cannot be aligned.

You can shim up your transmission mount quite a bit to alleviate the problem if you can't find the culprit.
