I'm planning on dipping the body of my 66 and was ponding the question: "Should I drill out the trim and vin plates". I really don't want to do that, but since I'm replacing the rear quarters with NOS panels, therefore not concerned about the seam-seal, I figured the easiest way was to dip. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

Tom,
Why don't you contact the company that you plan on having this done at and ask them their opinion. I'm sure they've gone over this tons of times.

Tom,
I just did this three weeks ago. You need to remove the trim tag. It is made of alumnium and will disappear if body is dripped. The VIN # plate is made of stainless steel so it does not need to be removed. The best way to remove the trim tag is to pinch the rivets from the back and the tag will come off. I heard the replacement rivets are about $100 each so don't lose it.
Good Luck,

How do you go about having the body acid dipped and why? I know it can be great for road racing if you have the cash to buy a lot of sheet metal but what are the advantages to the average joe? And again, how do you get it done... I can only imagine asking the body man "Hey could you acid dip it while your at it..."
