when i bought my 70 the previous owner said there was putty in the left side quarter. A few days ago i looked at the inside of the quarter by looking down the area where the quarter window goes down into. i notice a what looked like solid "drips" of something going in a strait line back and lines up a bit lower than the body line.

when i use a magnet around the area where the drips are the magnet wont stick, im guessing this is do to the putty but what are the solid "drips" welding maybe?? rust??

theres similar but smaller drips in the front fenders where the 307/350/400 tags go.

sorry fo the length and i'll be happy to clear things up if my words are confusing, i just need your guys' experience since this is my first experience with a classic car (im 17). thanks

Most likly Bondo(also known as body putty)it's a two part epoxy type mixture that body shops use to fill in low spots. It dries very hard and than you can sand it to match the original metal after you paint it. Your not supposed to fill rust holes with it but it often happens when someone wants to save a few bucks or make something look good to sell it http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

yeah i think you guys are right. theres similar drips on the other side. at least the guy was honest about those parts of the car. not like when he said it was 350 and it turned out being a 305, but then again maybe he didn't know the difference like i didnt know then.

okay i want to stop the rust as soon as possible but i have no money to repair the rust. should i just cut the rust out and find some way to protect the edges where it was cut out?? i know it sounds dumb but i have to stop it somehow.
