hello, i own a 1977 chevy malibu classic, it has a 305ci engine with a 350 turbo tranny, it is a 2 bbl carb and i am currently experiencing huge problems in driving it. We have had it on the road for almost 6 months after sitting for a considerable amount of time. it will start cold, but after a little bit of driving, around 35 mph, it will stall and sputter. I thought at first it was perhaps the transmission, so i changed the filter, which seemed to help...for a minute. It continues to sputter at even lower speeds, so we replaced the fuel filter which looked horrendous. It seemed to run fine for a while, until after 25 miles of driving we came to a stop at a light and it died once more. after a minute or two of rawhiding on the starter to get it cranked again, we continued home. going around a corner, it died nce more. well, we got it fired again, and we parked it at my mthoer and father's house. I replaced the spark plugs and wires about 2 months ago and has a fresh oil change. I am desperate for answers. thisis a wonderful car until this occured. so any advice would be much appreciated. I'm no mechanic but i know what it takes to keep it on the road, so with a problem like this, i figured i would ask the car kinfold at chevelle tech. Thanx so much for you time and you answers!!!!

How are the distributor cap and rotor (i.e. have they been replaced too)? Make sure your ignition system is in good tune before chasing carburetor problems.

For further diagnosing, pay close attention when your cranking if it sounds like it's trying to fire and won't stay running or if it sounds like it doesn't want to fire.

I would check these two things : Fuel pump output.....could be a bad diaphram.
Fuel pick up in gas tank couild be partially plugged. It sounds to me to be a definate fuel problem.Hope this helps....Don
