I replaced the rubber line that connects into the tee on the rear end housing on my 72. When the car was up in the air it was nearly impossible to connect it was so tight (slightly short). Now that it is on the ground it has a tiny bit of play but is still tight. I noticed it gets some add'l play when the rear bumper is pushed up, but is tight when the rear is compressed. Should I be worried about this? The replacement line I got was very slightly shorter. I don't want it pulling apart with my son driving.

I think you have the wrong line installed. I would not play around with brake systems get the correct line to play it safe.

I agree with BIGLEW, you might have the wrong hose. I just replaced the same hose on my 69 two weeks ago, and the replacement I got from NAPA was plenty long.

It is also possible, that a repair was made to the hard line, shortening it. As you already have sunk cost on the new hose, just add some hard line in front of the hose. Now, might be the time to buy a repop hard line or learn how to use flare tools.

Haven't been under my car in a while, but doesn't the hose mount to a fixed bracket on the floor pan where it connects to the hard line?

Yes, Olle, it does mount to a fixed bracket. I replaced all my lines about 2-3 years ago, and it is NOT the tight fit you describe, which sounds dangerous. Sounds like you've got something wrong or received the wrong line to install.

Yes, it mounts to a fixed bracket. I'll check into getting another. Thanks everyone for the confirm. Damn! just when I think I had the rear lines bled....

Got another line. Made by Brake Best. It's about 3/4" longer than the one I had. It's got to be at least as long as the stock line (which of course I promptly threw away when I took it off). It has a little play but sure seems like it could pull taught when the suspension bottoms. Anyway, I guess it's fine since it is similar in length to the old stock one.
