I'm wanting to get rid of the Magnaflows and get some Spintech mufflers. I'm looking at the Sportsman and the Sportsman XL. Does anyone have any experience with these.

Well, I've heard the Sportsman on LXS's 388 stroker and they are LOUD. That's about all I know about them. I think the Sportsman XL are the street mufflers.

I am leaning toward the XL series now. I dont want anything to loud just a little bit louder then the Magnaflows.

before you make the purchase check out PYPES performance Exhaust. I have run their Street Pro and their Violator series. Just for Kicks we dyno tested with spin tech and pypes mufflers... pypes won by 5 hp for my setup. Check out or sponcer... I think SS396 carries them. Just my 2c

I'm willing to give up a couple of horsepower. I just love the way the Spintechs sound.

I had a new exhaust installed with Spintech Pro-Street mufflers. It's a 2.5" setup with an H-pipe. Sounds really mean! It doesn't have the deep mellow type sound like flowmasters, it's more of an 'angry' sound :). The great thing about spintechs is the lack of resonance in the car.

I'm still leaning toward the Spintechs but I've heard some good things about the Hooker Aerochamber as well. I've never heard the Aerochambers before. Does anyone know where some sound clips are?

Don't have some sound clips but the Hookers sound awesome. I got rid of my flowmasters and put them on my Chevelle. IMO, the Hookers sound better on big inch engines than Flowmasters.

Here's a vid:

That is my old exhaust.

1-5/8" headers, Dr Gas X pipe (3" in, 2.5" out) with Spintech Sportsman Street mufflers.

I have a couple audio/video clips that I can email to ya from dyno testing my car if ya wanna hear how pypes sound... I think you'll be impressed. I would post them here but I don't know how.

Well I had 2 Spintech Sportsman mufflers and an H pipe put on today. This is exactly the sound I was looking for. They sound mean! They arent as loud as I thought they would be either. Just right in my opinion.

My experience - they are very loud and they eat horsepower! (dyno proven) You are better off with dynomax super turbos or straighline performance.

I prefer the spin tech sound to that of the dynomax super turbos. I have the dyno's on the corvette and the spin tech on the 'velle. As to the HP issues I do not know the facts but for a street application a few HP isn't a huge issue with me. Spin Tech's have deeper rumble sound at idle.

I would rather have mufflers that sound awesome and eat a couple horsepower then mufflers that sound like crap and give you a couple of horsepower. I personally dont like the way the straight thru mufflers like Magnaflow or Dynomax sound. I love the way chambered mufflers sound.

I have never been told my car sounds like crap with the straightline performance mufflers. Must be what's in front of the mufflers.

I think the chambered muffler sound is very "80's" but that's only my opinion.

Sound is personal preference. I've used flowmasters and dynomax. I prefer the straight through sound, but I don't hate the chambered sound. Anything American V-8 sounds good to me.
