What options besides Vintage Air and Classic Auto Air are there for a 71 Malibu? Has anyone ever adapted a late model system to work? The car is a decent driver but that's about it. It's not worth dropping a grand on the A/C but I'd like it to be a more comfortable car for the family. I think I'd used it more so I'm trying to figure something out.

Thanks
Jeff

I have thought about this also.

I looked at the boneyard for a car that came with a factory drop in unit (similar to the vintage air behind dash types). Something that has the evap, blower motor, and heater core all in one bolt in package.

One I found that looked like a possible candidate was the mid eighties to 1992 style fox body mustang.

It has a complete unit all under the dash, none in the engine compartment. The only thing that sticks thru the firewall is hoses for heat and air.

Anybody ever tried something like this???

it's really difficult using junk yard a/c parts, my advise would be a underdash unit you can remove if you sell the car , although it does make a car easier to sell, and alot more comfortable to drive
