: brake part ?

ok, I am putting 11 inch drums on the back of my 66 (12" rotors up front). I got a set from a 73-77 Abody ( 75 el camino). I am rebuilding them right now and I have a few questions.

1) What is this piece called? Its where some the springs connect but I have no idea how to order replacements (if I can)

Also, I want to order all new springs, is there a kit available or should I just order everything individually? (hold down springs, return springs, etc..)'

I just need to know what to call things, I would hate to order springs and only get half of them, it would just delay everything.

Thanks!

P.S. the 11X2 drums I supposedly ordered have a 12" in diameter backing plate (it does have 2 inch shoes though) is that correct or did the guy send me some other backing plates that are not the 73-77 Abodies?

Thanks again!!

I don't know what it is called but it doesn't come in the replacement hardware set. I'd just wire brush the thing and call it good. I don't believe it is a wear item. I just did the rear drums on my son's '72 and the hardware set came with all the springs except for the ones that go on the flat cross bar and the one that goes behind the star wheel adjusting arm. Neither of those are under much tension but I couldn't find any replacements so don't lose them! I got my hardware set at Pep Boys and it was a name brand (can't remember). Not too expensive.

Unfortunately I am missing one from 1 side, and some of the springs you mentioned. Does anyone know if these same parts come on the 9.5 brakes and would fit the 11" drums? Thanks!

I think that part is called an actuator link. It is not likely to be the same dimensions as the one from a 9.5" brake.

It should come in an adjuster kit. A complete adjuster kit should come with the starwheel, link, actuator, actuator (lever) return spring, and overide spring (if applicable) for one side. On some brakes the actuator lever is 2 pieces, and the kit should have both.

The regular combi-kit might also come with the overide spring. It should come with all other hold down parts and return springs for both sides.

I dont know how to get the parking brake strut spring, unless it comes with a new strut bar, which I doubt. This would be the spring that goes between the horizontal parking brake bar, and primary shoe. Sometimes it comes in a combi-kit, but usually not.

The only other hardware type part would be the little pushrods that connect the cyls to the shoes. Those are also available, called wheel cylinder pins.

The backing plate will be larger than the drum's inner diameter, though I dont know the exact dimensions... seems like it would be about an inch bigger though.

Mr. Abody, let me know what you are missing and I'll be happy to go thru my 'spare' stuff. I may have one of those actuator links and misc springs. I know for sure I don't have any of those oblong springs that goes on the strut bar. I had one that was broken and was lucky to find another in my spare junk.... I only had one.

Thanks chevry for the correct name for all the parts.
