I posted this same question under performance but I will try it here as well...I have a 66 Chevelle and it has non functional hood vents. Does anyone know about them, like is there somewhere that I can find functional vents? Or could I cut slits in the non functional ones I have now?

66 and 67 never were functional

Thanks, and I understand that but was wondering if there could be an advantage to making them functional.

That's odd, I wondered the same thing, I think it would really be cool. Like find a junk cowl hood off something, cut the seal area out and weld it under a 66 hood and run channels to the louvers. That'd be neet! Wishful thinking I guess, find someone with an end mill and mill out those little slots LOL, THAT would be a lot of work.
Sorry I went off on a tangent! It would probably not help, if anything make performance worse  I dunno, good luck with anything you try though graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks, but i was just talking about using a dremil tool to open up the slots for more air. I was told by club members that if i used ducts up to the vent areas it could be helpful but to just open the vent slots, the air would just go past the vents and not be very helpful. The only real advantage is that it would help with venting engine compartment heat out. Any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks again.

I used to think the same thing (still do sometimes)..
I thought it would be cool to built "flappers" like the 70-72 Cowl hoods, so the scoops would open and close...
Not sure itf it would really be a benefit...
As for using it to funnel air to the carb, it would work okay, but if its not a high pressure area (like the cowl), it might not show any improvement at all...
Removing the engine compartment heat might also be a benefit, but once again, probably not worth the effort...
I think some of the Mopar cars had inlets similar (but further to the side of the hood... Like Road Runners, etc... I recall seeing airboxes too...
I think it would look pretty cool...
