I'm only planning on doing a Base/clear job on my Velle. doubt i'll use it after that. I have a 60 Gal 7HP compressor 11cmf @ 90 and i'm looking for a gun that will do a good Base/clear with low Cmf and was wondering if the pressor pot guns work better. thanks

I used a high pressure gravity feed with a 1.4 nozzle.......it's a cheap Sata Jet 90 knockoff works great for base and clear.....I'd rather use it than the $450 Sata NR95 that hangs next to it :)

Forget the pressure pot. Go with the best gravity fed gun you can afford.HVLP's use less paint but require lots of cfm's.E-Bay has lots of spray guns at good prices. In my opinion the Sata Jet RP is the best I've sprayed with and uses less cfm's than most guns, around 10.3.I spray with a 1.4 tip.
Do a search for Sata on the net they have a great site. www.sata.de (http://www.sata.de) Mike

Ok how about for a guy who is going to spray his car and may be some other small stuff but doesn't make his living as a painter.

I already own an astro with a 1.7 nozzle for priming I was going to buy another one with a 1.3 for base and clear.

Is there another gun to buy that is Reasonable....I don't need a 300 gun that will sit on a shelf or should I just get another astro

Gary i paint almost every day and i'm using a Sata RP or a Geo FX95.Both are awesome guns but are over $400.The gun i had before these,i got from Northern Tools. Its basically a Sata copy,i painted a lot of cars with it and now i use it for primer and sealer. It's a good deal, because for $150 you get a gravity HVLP gun plus a gravity touch up gun.You can(and i have)buy parts for it if you need them.Heres the link.

I have a 6.5hp/60gallon compressor, and it sparays fine.I just limit the length of the hose.

GaryA stay away from the pressure pot system. In my opinion SATA is by far the best gun out there but you better have some cash. Ive never heard of the astro brand so I wont comment on its quality. I bought a Sata copy off the MAC tool truck. It cost around 150 bucks, sprayed great, still use it, but it doesnt compare to any Sata I got.

You might try www.autobodydepot.net/? (http://www.autobodydepot.net/?) Sata came out with a real nice gun called the LM 2000. I bought one for primer in the 1.7 tip it cost around 200. But this style of gun comes in all sorts of tips, so if you want a 1.3 tip for clear you can get it...Eric

I've been used to a conventional siphon feed guns, so when I went looking for a new HVLP gun, I did some looking and found a Sharpe 998 HVLP presure feed gun. It uses only 7.5 scfm of air at 50 PSI. It takes some getting used to but it spays wonderful. The sell refurbished Sharpe guns on their website, for a great price. Click here for their web site. http://www.sharpe1.com/
