1972 SS, my temp gauge is no longer working. When I groud the wire at the sender the gauge responds all the way over. So I replaced the sender, no help. Is it possible I got the wrong sensor (one for a heat light) at the parts store? Other suggestions?

With the sender wire grounded to the engine block it should peg towards hot, with it open it should peg toward cold.

Even if you have a light one, the gauge would not move off cold till the engine overheated. Sounds like you got the wrong, or a defective sender.
