I have a 66 Chevelle that has the typical cowl area rust in front of the windshield and on the dash on the inside of the windshield. And water drips on my right foot when it rains. I see that a company out there makes replacement panels for this repair. How much should I expect to pay to have this welded in professionally? It looks like a lot more than I would care to take on.
Thanks,
Kevin C

Surely someone could make a guess? Anyone? Please?
Thanks again,

Sorry thought you woulda seen this http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum3/HTML/003731.html I would suspect that a job like this would run ya 600-800 bucks professionaly completed to primer.. But thats just a guess.. If it's not done properly your windshield will not fit right and may leak on more than just your foot http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif I've noticed that many people shy away from the "Guess how much this'll cost" questions because there can be alot more involved than just replacing a few panels.. and the time and money can add up real quick. Martinsr, JimmyP or Brenden might have better info.. but I wouldn't hold your breath.. The easiest thing to do is find a reputable shop and ask the owner a "Ball Park" amount..

I know that Original Parts Group and National Parts Depot sell a 2 peice repair panel. It's $100. I'm sure other vendors would carry it too.

Sorry Kevinc I can't make a call there unless you put a picture on here. It's hard to tell the extent of the problem from your discription. I see them rot in the right and left hand corners but not in the center to much. A new dash or to repair what you have? cut out the winsheild gutter from a doner car or make it your self?

Brendan,
The only rust you can see from the outside is on the left side at the base of the windshield. Its bubbly and about 3" wide. There is a spot that is by the center of the windshield also that is about 1" diameter. A while back when I took out the dash to do some wiring repair there was rust under where the windshield is set in, but the wiper cowl area looked good. It looked like the rust was primarily on the drivers side. Would it be worthwhile to take out the windshield and POR 15 putty the channel and then coat it with POR 15 paint, or would that not hold for long? Looking at possibly an $800 repair its going to be a while before I can get to something like that. Please let me know what you think from your experience.
Thanks,
Kevin C

You stated two area of rust. one 3in long by ? and a 1in dia hole . After you clean the cannel length, you then have choises.
1. weld in patches or 2. do a QUICK will come back to haunt you FIX.
If $$$'s are not there to do the weld fix.
do the TIGER HAIR ( fiber glass filler)
por-15 fix. It will last awhile. till you save some $$$
