: Chevelle price craziness - update your insurance!
Xtreme70SS396 Aug 2nd, 05, 7:02 PM Hey all, I just thought I would remind everyone with collector car insurance that the price of our cars is getting ridiculous. As a result, I decided I better have mine re-appraised and set the insurance accordingly. If anything were to happen at least I would be covered to replace the car in this market.
Well, my car about doubled in value during the past 3 years. So if you've been waiting to update your insurance, DON'T! Several of our team members cars seem to get stolen every year, better safe than sorry.
ssal396 Aug 2nd, 05, 7:11 PM I agree, I just upped the replcaement value on my 69, I haven't touched since I got it 10 YEARS AGO.. Called them up and took it from $10,000 to $25,000 with nothing more then a phone call & some current pictures..
Boy would I have been sick if something would have happened to it & they cut me a check for 10k..
Good post,
Scott
Don_Lightfoot Aug 2nd, 05, 7:47 PM Also cannot stress this strongly enough. Got mine re-appraised this past spring after only a couple of years since the last one. Might turn into an annual prerequisite the way things are going. The additional premium for the higher value is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
RedSS454 Aug 2nd, 05, 8:57 PM Just upped mine the other day. After coming back from the body shop, I told the guy the price and he never batted an eye, and I thought I was asking for a lot. Guess the market is going up.
Also, I love Classic Car insurance. Only $200 a year.

Ls6Convertible Aug 2nd, 05, 9:13 PM Cmon guys, you know how some people get mad when you sound like you are more worried about protecting your investment than you are about enjoying it...!!!!
saturnstyl Aug 2nd, 05, 9:34 PM Thats because bad things happen when you least expect them to. Its going to be real hard to replace a nice chevelle for the $1400 the insurance company would like to give you for it. Most cars depreciate, be happy you are the owner of one that appreciates instead.
ricks_67 Aug 2nd, 05, 10:25 PM After driving mine for 3 years with Erie insurance and getting turned down by other insurance companies, I finally got collector car insurance for a pro street car. Bound July 29 Agreed value 25,000. This weekend was the first time I drove the car home from a cruise after it got dark. I was still watching every driver on the road and intersection but atleast I'm covered now.
Matt Leuck Aug 3rd, 05, 12:36 AM So what is the Classic Car insurance of choice?
I've been thinking about it for a while, but haven't been sure of which company to go to.

Clint44 Aug 3rd, 05, 12:59 AM I finally got off my duff and got a collector policy from LaRue Insurance at Chevellabration this year. Before,I was paying almost $300/yr just for liability with my former insurance carrier. Now,I'm paying $230/yr for an $25K Agreed Value policy. Definitely makes me feel more secure when I do drive my El Camino.

Clint, are there any stipulations to that? Like you must have a pre-retermined car related destination, no under 25 drivers, locked garage, no "no particular place to go" crusing... etc?
I would like to have mine insured by a company that deals in classics, but I can't deal with all of that other crap. I built my car to drive... not to sit in the garage with a big dark insurance co. cloud hanging over it.
