i'm removing my bench seat out of my 1970 chevelle car and installing buckets and console, it is an original 4 speed car my question for someone is, where the original hole for the shifter come's up thru the floor, there is metal piece that looks like a romans helmut ,and it is spot welded to the floor, this piece is designed for a non console car and it looks different than the roman helmut piece for the console shift car. if i remove that piece out of the floor can i weld the console shift helmut in the exact and i mean exact same spot, will my shifter line up where it suppose to be plus my console i would hate to weld it in and find out that it has to be moved, or modified.there is no room for error......... one other piece of info the motor and transmission are not in the car right now, so i can't use them as a guide or do i need them as a guide. so if anyone has done this procedure before please helpppppppp

Squid, I did this same swap in my 69 and I drilled out the old spot welds and welded the new back in the same place. No problemos
