: Whats the general opinion??Flows or Borla?
Chevelle Dude Aug 1st, 05, 11:54 PM Hey all..what would sound deeper and more aggressive on a 454 chevelle...Flowmaster 40's or any kind of Borla mufflers? Everyone keeps talkin me outta Flows and into Borlas for a more aggressive tone...I want that deep sound that you can feel in your chest when it drives by( serisouly...on the border of illegal....lol...whats the best??)
chevydog66 Aug 2nd, 05, 12:14 AM I have heard a lot of people saying good things about the Dynomax Super Turbos.
Dan Orgill Aug 2nd, 05, 6:55 AM Borlas will give a similar sound to the Dynomax ST. I had them on a previous 69 SS396, and will put them on my current ride as well. I don't find the Borla price out of line, as the Dynomax Ultra Flo are about the same.
The Dynomax ST would certainly be cheaper than Borla or FM.
Chevelle Dude Aug 3rd, 05, 5:45 PM if I threw the Dynomax on the 350...any deeper/louder than 40 flows??
I've ran both, from Top 10 Shootout Flowmasters to the XR-1's. The Flowmasters depending on motor size sound raspy and tinish. The XR-1's have the deep pulsation of sound I think your looking for. I do like the DynoMax race magnums as well and for the price in a 3" you can't go wrong. Your neighbors will love ya :D
Two Lane Aug 4th, 05, 2:56 AM WALKER ULTRAFLOWS for performance (substance).
BORLA for a FLOWMASTER-type effect ("style").
The choice is: substance or style?
Sound (noise) is not indicative of power. Sorta reminiscent of putting balloons on your bicycle spokes.
BUT: Like me ol' Pappy always said:
"You pays your money...you makes the choice."
Bob West Aug 4th, 05, 8:02 AM Balloons in bicycle spokes  we used to use playing cards or those 1000.00 baseball cards :(
arent flowmasters required on Mustangs? :D I don't like the sound.
Xtreme70SS396 Aug 4th, 05, 8:45 AM Gotta try the Pypes system also. They have sound clips on their site and a couple of their mufflers sound like just what you are looking for.

OUChevelleSS Aug 4th, 05, 12:19 PM I personally don't like Flowmasters. It makes your car sound like its gargling.

I have 3 chamber flowmasters on my car with a built 454 and it doesn't gurgle. It roars.
69boo307 Aug 4th, 05, 12:36 PM Spintech! I just got my new exhaust installed with spintech mufflers, it's pretty awsome. it's a unique sound though, nothing like Flows or Borla or Dynomax. The best thing about them is the lack of resonance in the car. Outside the car they have kind of a husky, really 'angry' sound, nothing mellow about them.
I wouldn't buy any brand where they can't produce flow numbers for the mufflers. I believe the general rule is 2.2cfm per horsepower total. If you have dual exhaust you divide that by 2 to get the optimum flow rate you need for each muffler. Flowmaster tech support tried to tell me that due to the design they couldn't put their mufflers on a flow bench. yeah, right.
Spintechs are made to order and are very well constructed.
Never Satisfied Aug 4th, 05, 1:21 PM I'm droping my car off Friday to have a 3 1/2" Dr Gas X pipe with 3 1/2" Spintechs installed. I can't wait to hear it!
tmino Aug 4th, 05, 1:25 PM I have an x-pipe and 40's series flows on my car. The muffler dumps out before the axle and I think its sounds awesome. My car is pretty mild with a basically stock 350 with a manifold, carb and headers added. Can't wait to here what it sounds like when I get my 383 stroker with a noticable cam.

3 1/2!?!! that's out of control! :) It will be extremely loud.
Mine is 2 1/2" with an H-pipe, exiting in front of the tires. I set off car alarms rumbling through the work parking lot :)
Never Satisfied Aug 4th, 05, 3:01 PM Yup, I'm going to run dumps too. My Velle is more strip than street and the local law is really pretty lenient.
