Alright guys, this has been an issue of mine for about ~7 months but I hadnt brought it up because I honestly just havent driven the 65 much more than 2 or 3 times lately. But I'm finally getting into the car and installing the pile of parts that have been waiting in the wings for the past several months so I know its going to become a "Huge" issue with me once the car is all done up.

I have Baers waiting in the wings too, but Im setting aside money to "do it right" and install a hydroboost simotaneously and that money won't be well enough accumulated until around christmas time (especially since Im dipping into it paying for the odds and ends to install the other pile of parts)

ANYWAY....

Back around January my mom had a buddy of mine go through my drum brakes and install a new master cylinder. The car stops wonderful as is, the pedal pressure is good and all, but when you hit the brake pedal the brake lights come on and stay on. If you take your foot and lift on the brake pedal the tiniest amount the brake lights go out and stay off until you use the brakes again. It seems like the pedal just doesn't return all the way like it used to??

It makes for an interesting drive of braking with your right foot and lifting the pedal with your left to turn off the lights. :D

Nonetheless, I'd like to get it fixed and figured you guys would know how to do it. I'm guessing the new master cylinder is the culprit and I have to play around with the connection between the pedal and the master and I don't even know where to begin.

Right now its 4 wheel manual drums with the single resevoir master.

Thanks ahead for any replies, leads or advice!

Can't you just adjust the brake light switch?

yea, you need to either adjust the brake light switch on the brake pedal bracketry or you need a new one. Sometimes they get dirt and debris from your shoes and just jamb up.

OHH, unless you are using a line pressure switch, but i HIGHLY doubt that. Good Luck!

Manual brakes use a return spring to bring the pedal back up against the brake light switch. Yours getting weak Russ?

Its possible. Guess I'll add that to my opg order this saturday. But what gets me is that it started doing all that the very day my buddy went through the brakes. Thats why I figured there might be an adjustment in the pedal rod connecting to the master or something.

I'll try all your guys different ideas and see whats what.

Thanks for the replies so far!
