I need to upgrade my radiator ( currently 72 Malibu 307 no air turbo350) to handle my new crate 350. Since the new rad(3 core) will be larger, which shroud can/should I use? Will the BB shrouds work that are available aftermarket? It seems no one offers a HD/AC sbc shroud. Is there a difference in shrouds from 71 to 72? TIA.

First of all, you should not need a new shroud, the normal SB shroud should work. Also, why do you need to upgrade your rad? I have a 350 that I am sure was more HP than the crate engine your getting and it ran fine off of a 2 core rad.

I just installed a new Autometer temp gauge with the sender in the thermostat housing. It reads 220 in town at a light and 215 while crusing at 65 mph. I also installed a new 180 Stant super stat. I wanted to check everything out before I installed the new engine since its going to run warmer during breakin. Initial timing is set to 12 degrees and the carb is burning just right. The current rad is the short 20" one.

Those are about the exact temperatures that my 350 ran at, and I NEVER had any problems with overheating or anything. And on a cold day it would run 190-200 but on average around 210-220 in the city. I wouldn't worry about it. It may be good insurance to have a 3 core, but do you really need to spend the extra cash?
