I scratched off almost the whole passengers side axle tube on my 68 looking for the rear end ratio code stamp, and it's no where to be found! Is is there an alternate location for where it might be stamped? No, I don't have the build sheet, I haven't found it yet (and may not ever after seeing some of the work the PO has done). Thanks guys!
Take a rag soaked with gas and wipe the grease. The stamps are hard to see if they are filled in.
It will be on the front of the passenger tube. I will have to check the 12 bolt in the garage for exact location, distance from the pumplin, i.e....

I must be rear end challenged or something, because I still can't find it, on the rear end in the car, and even the 12 bolt I have in the garage... Isn't there a way to find out the ratio, but spinning the wheels, and counting how many times the driveshaft turns vs. each wheel ratation?

Rotate the wheel one complete rotation and count how many times the yoke on the pinion gear make a complete rotation. This will put you in the ball park. One rotation of the wheel to four of the yoke is 4.00 to 1 ratio for example.
