Where can I find cheap alternator brackets for a 67 396 with a short water pump. I need both lower and upper brackets

Make your own. A short peice of steel tubing cut to length as a spacer bolted to the head and some rod ends with a threaded peice of tubing for an adjuster work great.

thanks for all your info, I ended buying a chrome kit on ebay for thirty dollars.

More than likely the chrome kit will be missing the small bushing that goes in the rear of the bracket for the lower bolt. Also if you have headers you will need to fab a spacer for the mount bolt that goes to the header. Good Luck.

Jeff, I could have sworn when I assembled the alternator bracket on my 66BB, that the part of the lower bracket that went onto the exhaust side of the head had it's own bolt hole and did not share a hole with the exhaust. I don't remember having to do anything special on my 502.

You are correct Tom. I was confusing my PS bracket with the Alt bracket.:clonk: Just went and looked. The bushing comment should be correct.

That is correct. I just finished swapping a set of heads on my 66SS and the lower bracket did not use the header/manifold bolts to bolt on to the engine. There is a threaded hole just ahead of it for the lower bracket side fastner.

Although I have never actually looked for it. You might be in luck by searching a hardware store for the tube like bushing for the lower bracket if you need one.
