: Where to mount washer bottle in '67?
mitchedo Jul 28th, 05, 4:35 PM My stuff got here today, minus the nozzles. They should be here tomorrow.
Here is a shot of where I believe the bracket should go. What is the factory location? The voltage regulator doesn't seem to be in the right place.

Here are a couple of shots of the bottle and bracket I bought.

elco68 Jul 28th, 05, 6:10 PM Not sure of the 67,but in 68 it mounted on the inside fender lip, drivers side just in front of the fender well.Page 200 of the SS restoration book if you have that.
zeke67 Jul 28th, 05, 9:46 PM You've got the right bracket and bottle. The locations you have pointed to are spot welds on my 67. This is not the location for the washer bottle, but you are close. The bracket mounts to the back of the radiator support, not on the folder-over edge you have indicated. You are correct, the voltage regulator is not in the right place.
The bracket actually mounts with three screws, not two. If you look at the bracket, you'll see three holes, two at the top of the bracket and one below, half way between the two. The bracket mounts about where your voltage regulator is. The top two mounting screws protrude through the front of the radiator support, about an inch above the brace that supports the top edge of the grill. The bottom screw protrudes under this brace. The location is also closer to the radiator, beside the horn relay.
The voltage regulator should be lower, and closer to the radiator right above the radiator support body mount. It should be mounted at more of a 45 degree angle than you have it. There is a very flat area on the radiator support for the regulator, although is is not in the vertical plane. The top of this mounting area angles toward the front of the car. You can see this area in your photo. I also believe I can see all three mounting holes for the voltage regulator in your picture. The voltage regulator will be positioned somewhat under the washer bottle.
On mine, the horn relay is is mounted horizontally, and a little higher up on the radiator support.
DaleM Jul 28th, 05, 10:55 PM Here's a shot of my 67 El Camino. Note the original frame is spot welded to the support in three locations. Also note locations of the horn relay and voltage regulator.

zeke67 Jul 28th, 05, 11:07 PM Excellent photo, exactly what I was trying to describe. Mithedo, this is what you need to replicate for the stock look.
The three spot welds are part of the washer bottle bracket assembly, joining the bottle support portion of the bracket to the mounting portion. There are still three screws that connect this bracket assembly to the core. The upper screws are hidden by the harness in the photo, but you can see a little bit of one of them, and a little bit of the bottom screw. These are sheet metal screws with hex heads.
DaleM Jul 29th, 05, 12:09 AM :D I went outside and shot it when the question was asked. Good question and reply and I'd thought I'd take a picture of it for visual effects. Glad the question was asked.
Sgtpop Jul 29th, 05, 7:30 AM Dale, You are a busy man, pictures are always worth a thousand words.
mitchedo Jul 29th, 05, 1:25 PM That's a GREAT photo!!! I'm not into restoring this car to original, but would like to keep it that way as much as financially possible. I need to make that bracket that is welded to the rest of the bracket. ...the one that's attached to the radiator support. It looks like it might be just a Z shape connected by two screws at the top. Does it connect at the bottom too? I tried to make an ascii drawing, but I think the spacing will be kinda goofy when the software gets done with taking out spaces. I had in mind to make a C shape, with flanges at the top and bottom to bolt to the rad support.

zeke67 Jul 29th, 05, 5:13 PM From the pictures you posted of your bottle and bracket I can't tell if you have the entire bracket assembly or not.
You may need to fabricate an additional part, but it's not a Z shape. It's like a squared of C shape, with vertical flanges of the top and bottom of the open parts of the C. Also, the open part of the C would face the rad support. I couldn't follow the ASCII drawing.
If you can take a picture of the bottle and bracket looking straight down from the top, and straight on from the side, I can tell you for sure. I can tell you for sure.
There are two screws at the top and one on the bottom. If you look closely at Dale's picture, the top screws are hidden by the wiring harness but you can see the bottom edge of the one closest to the radiator. You can also see the bottom edge of the lower screw, it';s mostly hidden under the bracket by the camera angle.
Rodeo73 Jul 29th, 05, 6:26 PM I was going to describe this, but then I decide to just go out and remove it off my 67 and take pics also. So here it is and I hope this helps. One thing I did see it that the 3 holes on mine don't look like spot welds. I do see 4 small dimples in a square pattern in the metal. But I am not sure how the bracket is held onto the jar rack.

zeke67 Jul 29th, 05, 7:06 PM More excellent photos. Mitchedo, you can see exactly what you need to fabricate. You can even see the three bolt holes where the screws attach to the rad core support, Two on the top, one on the bottom. They are all shiny from the underside of the screw heads.
Rodeo 73, I think the dimples are the machine spot welds. The two small holes that go through the center of both parts are probably register holes, so they can align both pieces before spot welding.
