I have had trouble getting my edelbrock 750 man sec. carb. tuned in right to my motor. 11.0-1 383, rpm heads, intake, 280H mag cam, roller rockers, hooker supercomps,..A friend of mine recommended a Predator carbureator to try. He has one on his bench I could try out. Are these any good for a street car? any downfalls to running one?

Everybody I know who tried one could not tune them well enough to run on the street. All of them went back to a Holley. My impression is they have 2 positions that work- Full throttle and off :)

EDIT: Just for clarification I was referring to the predator carbs.

Have you tried the Performer Series 750CFM Carburetors?? They have choke and no choke models.

thats what I am running.. a 750 Performer #1409. man choke. I have leaned it out 2 times already (metering rods, and primary jets) and gone up 1 heat range and she still fouls plugs if I let it idle for more than a couple minutes..I have heard some good things about the edelbrocks, which is why I chose one. but its been a bear to get to tune right.

Who needs a throttle anyway? An on/off switch should do. :p

Edel carbs have an enrichment valve also. You change it by changing spring tension. Rich at idle is from a couple of things - too high an idle setting, too high float level or power valve that is opening.

You don't want or need a Predator on a street car..with or w/o the idle circuit.

I played with them a few years back..kinda cool, but their place isn't on most street/strip cars
