Our club recently had a "dyno day" at a performance shop with a Mustang chassis dyno. If I understood the operator correctly, he said the readout was CRANKSHAFT horsepower and torque. He said the machine takes the vehicle weight and other factors, as well as rw torque, rpm, etc., and computes crankshaft hp. I don't see how without some huge assumptions. For instance, how could it know the difference between a T350 and T400 trans? Or between a Chevy 12 bolt and Ford 9" rear. Considerable differences in drivetrain losses there. Does anyone know details on how the dyno's computer figures crankshaft hp? Mustang Dyno's website doesn't elaborate.
