Hey All...
Anythoughts on why the drivers side of the rear of my 68 SS would sit about 5/8" lower than the right? All components are new .... complete Hotchkis suspension kit (1" lower), new shocks, new rubber body mounts (frame-off restoration)..etc, etc....can't figure this one out....

Have never had it happen to me, but have heard that it can happen if you tighten the nuts on the A-arm bushings while it's still on jacks, especially if you use poly bushings. Put blocks under the wheels, loosen the nuts and retighten them. It might help. Also doesn't hurt to check if both springs are seated right in the A-arms.

aha....i'll give that a check after i get back from work next week...thanks for the info...i had torqued em all while i was still rebuilding the entire suspension...should the weight still be on the wheels? or should they be hanging free? my neighbor has a lift that i can drive the car on and then loosen and retorque.....

should i loosen all of them (front and back?) since all of them have been replaced?

You need the weight on the wheels. If you tighten them while the wheels are hanging, you'll make the bushings stick in that position. They will probably move to the right position eventually, but that's what could cause the problem.

You should be able to do this in no time on a lift, so it's worth a try. Do the front and rear while you're at it.

No Olle, it's if you use rubber bushings. Rubber bushings are bonded to the shell and inner sleeve. Once everything is torqued down the rubber has to twist/stretch in order for the control arm to move up or down. If they're tightened with the suspension hanging they want to stay that way and will tend to hold the car up. Poly bushings aren't bonded to the shell or sleeve, they are also supposed to be greased before assembly so the will slide easily inside the shell and around the sleeve.

With the car sitting on the tires loosen all the bolts. Bounce the car up and down and let it settle to where it wants to sit, then tighten all the bolts.

Thanks for straightening that out Hank! Now when you say it, poly bushings can't be bonded. Would be a pretty stiff ride...

Hey all.....Well...I got the car up on drive on racks and we loosened everything up, bounced the car a little, then retorqued all of it.....The problem is a little better, reduced by about an 1/8", but it's still there.....oh well..not sure where else to go from here...car still drives UNREAL......
