: Turn Signal Lubrication

We are in the middle of wiring our 65 Chevelle with a "Painless" harness. We pulled the steering wheel to trace a wire and to check the condition of the cams, etc while replacing the turn signal lever and the horn contact. We think maybe the cam needs to be lubed while we are in there??? What should we using, assuming it should be lubed.
Additionally, when we pulled the wheel itself there was a ring that looks like a thin gasket that the three screws go into and it cracked in one area. Does this need to be replaced? If so, what is and where can I get one?
We were considering replacing the whole works, but I am not sure where to get all the replacment pieces and what each is called.
Someday we'll look back and laugh at all this, right????? We have built a relationship with our UPS delivery man who checks the progress each time he drops off more parts : - )
Thanks so much for any help.

The 1968 Chevrolet shop manual says to lubricate parts inside the steering column with a thin coating of lithium soap grease.

If I remember correctly, the plastic ring is an insulator. Without it, your horn might blow continuously. If you can just piece it together, it still might function correctly.

In other words, use white lube.
