How do i know where is the original position of the stock hood locking pins?

I've got a set for my car because people found out how my hood opens, and i don't want to be on the look out all the time.

How do i know the position for them?
Where do they go?

TIA.

Got the following from this list. I kept it becuase I'm going to add hood locks as offered by Summit.

" Hood pin locations 2/14/02 (From Chevelle Tech discussion group)

I looked in my assembly manual today and found location measurements for the pins but not the holes. Anyway, I measured both my 70 hoods and they're the same. The center of the holes measures 3.050 from front and 3.675 from the side. The holes for the sheet metal screws are at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock facing the hood from the front. My guess is that the holes were factory drilled with some type template, then the pins and/or core support were adjusted accordingly, but that's just a guess. I'd find it hard to believe that GM threw in the pins, then just drilled the holes wherever they hit.

Incidentally, my measuring was done with the plates installed on the hoods, measuring to the center of the holes with a vernier scale. I didn't bother to measure the size of the hole in the hood itself, although I could pull a plate and measure if you need that exact size also."

Shai:
I can't help ya with the 'exact factory' location however, I did do this with my 71 (This is not likley the correct method http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif ):
There are flat areas stamped into the rad support outboard of the rad it self, probably recessed a little bit. This should make with a long hole/slot in the hood bracing. I drilled a hole big enough for the locking pin stud in the rad support and installed the studs. I put a small dab of paint on the top of the stud ans closed the hood. I then drilled a pilot hole through the hood from the underside and check alignment again. I think you will need a fair oversize hole in the hood to stop it from rubbing. Goodluck.

Get the security lock type hood locks instead of the pins.

They have the round key like a safe or security system. They look better and they're harder to defeat than the pins and padlocks.

If you'd rather not drill holes in your hood, check the tech references. I think Wes submitted an article on how to set up the later style hood releases from inside the car. There's also an article on locking it down with a chain and padlock without drilling holes.

edit: here's the link to the tech article (http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref25.html) on discreetly locking down the hood.

If security is the issue, I recommend any or all of the above.

That's what i have http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
I just want to know where the original hood pins went, so it would go in the right place.

Thanks for the measurements.
