I know with new paints, typically are supposed to wait about a month to polish or wax, what about taking down orange peel? Any tips? As far as I know, be careful, tons of water and 2000 grit? sponge, block sand, by hand?

I am no expert, but I think it will depend on the type of paint (or clearcoat?) used... Some paint types will harden very quick, and therefore need to be wetsand soon after painting (2-3 days?).

I think you will alos want to use some sort of sanding block to help evenly distribute the pressure from your fingers on the sandpaper (and therefore on the new finish)...

use a very flexible block, I use a homemade one, natural rubber 3/16" thick and wrap the paper on it, cuts nice and flat. Do not use any block with serated surface or holes to colorsand-they leave small cut lines in the surface. House of Color recomends balsa wood for colorsanding but I've never tried it. You will have areas that are only accessable with your fingers and will also need to rubbed by hand or with a 3 inch micro buffer. Do one or two panels at a time if you want to cut fast with the buffer (if the paint is still on the green side) Or if it's completely locked then it doesn't matter sand the whole thing and buff. Also don't do it outside-even a slight wind will add micro organic abrasives to your sanding water and buffing compound and can make for a bad day. Do the sand and buff indoors paying carefull attention to cleanliness with reguard to the panel surface and the tools being used, one piece of silica sand whipped around on your hood with the buffer can definately bring tears to ones eyes.
