: How do I purchase stock wheels, for newer cars.
BB_Mike Jul 25th, 05, 11:58 PM I want to upgrade the stock wheel on my 97 Tahoe. Mostly because of the corrosion that has set in.
Here is the truck:

I do not plan to lift it, so I wont ever need wider than stock tires.
A friend pulled beside my truck with his '05 GMC pickup, and the wheels looked pretty good for my body style. Maybe I can use some H3 wheels like DjD has? :)
Anywho, how does one go about getting factory made wheels?
Salvage yard? (none locally worth a damn!)
E-bay?
Dealership?
I see plenty of nice trucks with aftermarket rims. Do they just order them that way?
MedicTed Jul 26th, 05, 12:03 AM I got GMC wheels for my truck on e-bay.
JWA Jul 26th, 05, 12:08 AM Swapmeets or Ebay would probably work. You might also check the local tire shops for take offs, some of the time they can be had for a deal. My buddy sold a set like yours last swap meet for $100.
drums&cars Jul 26th, 05, 12:10 AM Your dealership will have a huge assortment of stock wheels, maybe even cheap since the probably came off a car/truck that had the dealer install better wheels. Or eBay should have a lot of wheels for cheap.
chevelless502 Jul 26th, 05, 12:41 AM Dont want to turn it into a 4sale thread but email me, i have a set of 16" caddilac escalde wheels i took off of our 99 tahoe before i traded it.
Would really like to get rid of them. I always got compliments on them.

DjD Jul 26th, 05, 12:58 AM Mike - the H3's and Colorado's have 4" center bores and are hub centric (I believe that is the term used) I don't know if you could use them or not. Backspacing is deeper than other truck wheels as well due to the disc rotors being mounted inboard of the hub not on the hub.
The place to shop for "takeoffs" is ebay or the local wheel, tire and suspension shop that does dealer customs. Most dealerships have someone they use and part of the deal is the takeoff parts. Don't expect to go by a Chevy dealer and have someone tell you who does their work, they do wheels, tires and a muffler and mark the trucks up $5000. They don't want customers cutting them out!
I didn't get my H3 wheels from this guy but met him in my "cheap" wheel and tire quest. He's local to my area and I got to see one of his warehouses today, it was huge and cleaner than any tire store I've ever been in. He has a couple employees that inventory, handle shipping and receving and mount and balance tires when needed, he works the e-bay end of the business... Check out his auctions, there are many others doing the same thing so shop around. Watch out for shipping costs, if they chare a flat rate for the lower 48 the guy that is closest is paying more than he should. Bottom line is communicate with the seller, my wheels and tires weigh 61lbs each and were the same as a 32x32x12 box. DHL was $24 each from AZ to CA. Like a lot of ebay shipping is often high to pad profits...

RussD Jul 26th, 05, 1:06 AM Also may want to try: http://www.car-part.com its a link for salvage yards that have their stuff inventoried. Dunno how much luck you'd have with 2005 stuff, but its worth a try.
Edit- Bored, so I clicked my own link and searched. There's tons of stuff on there  Some of its a little pricey, but the dealership is gunna be even more!
Intended to include the master link to ebay wheel and tire packages and forgot... Pick your wheel size on the left.

Chris R Jul 26th, 05, 3:23 AM I dont want this to turn into a for sale thread either but I have been looking into selling the rims off my 97 Tahoe also. They are the same as the ones pictured but they do have some corrosion but not bad at all.
novaderrik Jul 26th, 05, 5:09 AM the local Chev dealer had brand new 16" take off wheels and tires from a new 1/2 ton 4X4 truck that got the 20" wheel upgrade for sale last summer for (i think) $600 for the wheels and tires.
they never got driven farther than from the delivery truck to the service bay, where they got taken off and replaced by the bling wheels.
david_396 Jul 26th, 05, 9:22 AM Check your local Thrifty Nickle sale paper. It's the paper that is free at stores and has all types of listings
BillsCamino Jul 26th, 05, 10:10 AM Mike,
Get with Dana!!
He gets Hummer take offs ALL the time and resells them cheap.
If you need his number, call me.
EDIT: Never mind! :clonk: I forgot a Tahoe is a 1/2 ton, 5 lug.
He's been selling them for 3/4 ton P/U.
ZZ69chevelle Jul 26th, 05, 10:21 AM I got a set of mint Silverado wheels with center caps for 200 bucks off ebay, shipped from CA to PA. I wanted a spare set for my winter mud terrians so I wouldn't have to keep swapping them on the rims I had. At the time ebay was flooded with truck wheels for cheap.
LeoP Jul 26th, 05, 6:50 PM a 4x4 Tahoe is 6 lug. Look over at www.fullsizechevy.com (http://www.fullsizechevy.com/) at the for sale forum, I see wheels and tire combo's there all the time. I am there as 021500HD. You might try emailing Tman, I got some HD alloys from him for my truck.
pdq67 Jul 26th, 05, 9:36 PM Does AAA Wheel sell what you are looking for?

airrj Jul 26th, 05, 10:16 PM Try http://www.keystone-auto.com
They sell remanufactured Alloy wheels.
BB_Mike Jul 26th, 05, 10:24 PM I can not put chrome wheels on this truck. Much less some of the gaudy stuff that is getting made now-a-days.
Keystone looks like a good deal, but they do not do center caps. WTF is that all about?
I might just take mine, sand on them some, and them paint them the same charcoal color as my runner boards are.
How about you photoshop junkies get on that! :)
